Daily Food Chart

I decided to start a calorie chart to keep track of how many calories I'm eating. I was surprised that so far my total calories is less than 1200 per day, and I'm not at all hungry. So I'm guessing that is a normal amount for me. So if I'm eating less than 1200 calories a day, why aren't I losing weight? Why am I gaining? Though I will say that since I started this current diet, which isn't a true diet, just a change in what I eat, I am starting to lose. So far I've lost 4 pounds and hope to see a lot more before this month is out. Do you keep track of what you eat? Thanks for reading.

No, I don't keep track. I don't care one way or the other. Are you exercising? I exercised with a trainer for four months back 2010. I exercised every day and lost about 35 pounds. I was still drinking my Maxi Java Latte nearly every day but careful what I ate rather than that. When I went to my annual check up year before last I had lost 20 pounds(from what I weighed the previous year) and I wasn't even trying to lose or doing anything different.

@celticeagle I was trying to lose weight. I thought that swimming every day would take the weight off, but it didn't. It helps, but whatever I had lost before, I gained back. Now I have an incentive to take it off, my knee surgery. If I can get this off, I can maintain without any trouble.

That's great to lose that much without trying. Yes, I go to the pool almost every morning for about an hour before breakfast.

I did at one time Valerie keep track..I just can't seem to stick with it. Its good your calorie is 1200 that is perfect it seems to lose weight. I lost a total of 45 lbs in the last what 3 yrs..just changing what I ate and walking more. It was not easy, but not as hard as I thought. I have around 10 more lbs I want to lose but just can't seem to do it yet..I have to really watch it as 2 lbs on will drive me crazy. Good luck Valerie you are doing good.

It's well under 1200 a day, which is good. I think today might be my highest calorie count. We'll see.

Congratulations on losing the four pounds! That's a nice start. I kept track years ago, but I mainly cut out carbs, sugars, and fatty foods. You can only lose if you eat less calories than your body can burn. Exercise is key, even if it's mild to moderate. My husband and I took a nice walk around our lane after dinner. It's only 5/8 of a mile, but it was better than sitting and watching TV. Now I'm sitting and myLotting.

@DianneN Yes it does. Someone told me many years ago if you exercise before breakfast the calories keep burning throughout the day. So I don't eat anything before the pool.

I don't but my better half has diabetes and he can eat everything but has to count carbs. I measure his food with a cup. He can have a small potato, corn is half a cup, watermelon a whole cup an So on.He can have three veggies per meal and a meat substitute. He has lost several pounds and eats a healthy diet. Four pounds is a good start for you.

I keep a daily diary so that anytime I feel a bit of I can check to see if it could be anything I ate the previous day or days.

I think your metabolism is slowed down, metabolism is necessary to burn calories even if u eat less, drink plenty of water, but carefull that drink water only after 30 mins after food otherwise it will slow down ur digestion

I do yes, and it helps me with weight loss. I think in order to lose weight you have to develop a real consciousness of what you eat, not just mindlessly stick food in you mouth,

Do you drink alot of soda or junk food ? Those could be a few things of why you are gaining and not losing. I have lost 10 pounds and not even trying. I'm hoping to lose some more though.

@just4him Well that's good. I try not to eat alot of junk food but every so often I just get that craving. I have to watch my salt intake also.

I haven't had a soda in almost a year and I don't do a lot of junk food, definitely nothing on the salty list. I do get bakery every so often, but not more than once in three months. So no, not a lot of junk food.

It is great that you are losing weight, and when you have positive results you tend to become confident and put in more efforts ! I used to keep count and know when I gorge , normally I would like to stay between 1200 - 1400 and as long as my activity level is the same or slightly more, I have no fear of putting on weight.
