So, I found out something that would have been REALLY useful information to have way before now! Better late than never though, right? This is what I have discovered recently.
I don't know about everywhere but at least here if you are on food stamps you can get internet for only $10 per month through AT&T!!! This whole time my children could have been doing more school work online through out the year if I knew about this. Right now I use my mobile hot spot to be here but it won't load videos or anything like that.
This next year coming up I AM taking advantage of this program because we could really use internet but we cannot afford the $120 most companies here want for it each month. This will be a big blessing and I am grateful for someone in my Home School group on FB for enlightening me.

We discovered last year that we could get a discount with AT&T through my husband's job. glad you found out about the discount.

I cannot come up with anything great I have learned recently. I do know that I can get some help getting a storm shelter due to my status as a native American.

Wow thats great. Never heard that. So maybe it is just there. But we get our internet through Comcast/our tv. Only pay $50 or $60 for it a month.

@patgalca I am going to look into it and see what we are able to do with it. If they can't watch videos at least they will be able to do other online work.

That's wonderful. Well, I did find out something useful. I'm on Cox Lifeline phone plan, and instead of paying a dollar for it, I've been paying 18 dollars a month. Eighteen dollars to call locally, and I don't even use my landline. I keep it in case of emergency, but I'm not going to continue doing 18 dollars when it's not worth that much.

Oh, yeah, that's a federal thing. It's part of the Lifeline program, I think, but it's a relatively recent introduction. I think CenturyLink participates in our area.
You should be able to qualify for it without much issue even if the kids aren't doing the homeschooling stuff. If you don't have a bandwidth cap, you can run the videos through Swagbucks during the day to earn a bit with the connection.

@yukimori Yeah I'm pretty sure we will qualify since we don't make much money. I'm on SB but I don't think this internet will allow me to watch the videos.

@LovingMyBabies From what I understand it's the basic connection and allows full functionality even though it's discounted.
I've had to disable certain types of videos through my browser to keep my bandwidth under control. Going from an unlimited connection to one with a 300 GB monthly cap has really sucked, even though our speeds are something like 66% higher now.

Most internet isn't that expensive. I have HughesNet and it is 80 a month and they have a cheaper plan. But if you can get that deal go for it. You would assume someone would have told you all the benefits when you signed up for them.

our telephone company is where we have internet subscription, and every now and then, a customer service representative calls us home to suggest us to avail of their promo of having an iPad, but it will cost much. time and time again, we refuse, and they keep on calling us still.
i am glad you discovered about this. the net allows the kids to gain access to some knowledge-information sites.

I am so glad programs like that exist! The internet is almost a necessity nowadays since so much stuff has moved online. (For instance, most companies require you to go online to apply for jobs, so it's very hard for people to look for work without regular internet access.) This will be a big benefit for your kids too. I'm glad you found out about it!
