A spectacular bridge on a spectacular art quilt

Anne is still producing incredible art quilts and I think this one may be the most amazing yet (well, the one she is working on now may be even better).
This quilt, measuring 32" x 44", depicts the first bridge that spanned the Bosporous Strait. That bridge, opened in 1973, connects Asian Turkey and European Turkey. It is 3524 feet (1074 metres) long. Prior to its construction, ferries were the only way to cross the strait. When Anne first went to Istanbul in 1963 on her way to teach at American air force bases, she spent many hours waiting in line for ferries. The crossing by ferry took about twenty minutes.
I especially like the boats she added, the skyline of old Istanbul and the amount of work it took to get the "suspension cables" done. Reducing it to 500 MB does not do it justice.
Anne's quilt and another I wrote about sometime back have been accepted to be in a show called "Bridges" that will tour the state of Oregon for two years.

So fAr I haven't really tried any art quilts. I did a birds of a feather quilt last winter....it comes close....but nothing as beautiful as Anne's quilts.

Take a look at the SAQUA website sometime. It has become an international art form. Anne is in a couple of local groups and thinks that has helped her learn a lot.

I can't imagine how many hours it took to figure it all out. She did some hand painting on various parts of it like the sky line and the boats.
