Someone left a bag outside a 7-11 store on the weekend while he went inside to shop. Someone else picked up the bag and put it in the cab of their truck and drove off. While driving off with the bag, the four passengers decided to open it to see what was in it and it exploded. It was a bomb. It burst into flames and ignited the truck within minutes injuring the 4 occupants. Police discovered an IED (improvised explosive device). The 4 are in hospital and two of them are critical with severe burns. Of course they are saying they intended to turn it into the police - we will never know. Police are still investigating and don't believe the person who left the bag outside the store knew what he was carrying either. A hard lesson to learn. Be careful what you steal or don't steal at all. Have you ever picked up something left lying around that wasn't yours?

They admit to opening the bag, that is when it exploded. A painful lesson

Now days I would think that the person who left the bag knew exactly what they were carrying.

I think that is why he left it outside and didn't take it in the store or leave it in his car.

They could have lost their lives. One day years ago I was standing at the bus stop waiting for a particular cab when a woman boarded a bus and five minutes after it left, I noticed that she had left one of her bags. When my cab arrived, I took the bag with me and asked the driver to take me to the police station which was about two minutes away. I left it with an officer after explaining the circumstances. People here usually check the police stations hoping that some honest person might have turned in any item which they might have forgotten somewhere.

Looking at the video of the fire I am amazed that any of them escaped with their lives. That was a nice thing to do to go through all that trouble. Nowadays not sure I want to pick up any bag even to return it as you never know.

Another way to look at this: these four were on the way to harm someone else. Unfortunately, the homemade device exploded before time and they got caught. The quick explanation is: we didn't know what it was, we grabbed it from a stranger. THAT WAY, the police couldn't pin any fault on their part or their families. Bet you that the police are going to keep a close eye on these fours and theirs activities from now on.

Oh my god that's awful. I am feeling sorry for those four people because they got hurt but it was all their fault. We must never steal. It is so unethical. And we learnt from this post of yours the consequences of stealing. Better abstain from it

Yes I do feel bad for them but it is a hard lesson not to pick up things that don't belong to you.

So the police think that the person carrying the bag didn't know what's inside? But it makes me wonder why that person would leave it outside the store. I hope it's not some horrible prank or anything.

That is what they say but they caution it is early in the investigation. I too wonder why he would eave it outside the store and not in his car either. Hope they get to the bottom of it

When i worked in a store I found a wallet and took it to the office.. But normally just pick up something if people drop something, and give it to them. That is terrible, but the person had a bomb and shopping why on earth did he have a bomb?

I was at a park one day when I found an iphone and was heading to the office to turn it in when it rang and I was able to tell the owner where I was heading and she came and got it.

It will be interesting to see what information comes out about the person who left it there. I guess we do need to be careful what we pick up!

I guess curiosity killed in this case injured the cat. A lesson the robbers did not learn. Another lesson, don't take something that does not belong to you. I wonder if they lesson they learned....to be continued?
