Next Sunday, a week from today, I will be having an important dinner party. There will be six guests and I want to make it special both with food and atmosphere. It has been a few years since I have had a more formal meal, I usually have been having casual get togethers. So I am out of practice. I have two people besides myself with special diet so I am looking for tempting foods to appeal to all and still fit into the diets. I am sure it will come together and we will have a wonderful time but this week ahead of me will be tense. I am a nervous wreck. I suppose as I nail down all the details I will relax. When is the last time you had a more formal dinner with guests?

I think it was many years ago! I'd rather enjoy a casual meal, but I'm sure your dinner party will be fabulous. Sometimes the planning of something special is as nice as the event itself! Let us know how it goes.

It has been quite a few years since I have even been to a more formal dinner let alone give one. I am all for the casual.

I don't remember the last formal time we had with guests. I do have gorgeous china and teacups etc. for a formal, lavish tea. We used to have tea out in the garden but haven't done that in a very long time.

@HazySue Tea time just begs the participant to slow down; the floral delicate cups with tea and sometimes mint, just slow down, enjoy the moment.

@sallypup It seems so Victorian. I love that it is generally held in a garden.

I would love to have a tea in the garden, it sounds like fun. I haven't heard much about formal dinners lately.

They are all your friends aren't they? I wouldn't worry so much and just enjoy the process. Things will work out. It's not as if it were your first time. I haven't had a formal dinner in ages. Don't recall really.

Mom would do those kinds of dinners but I never have, I'm not much for formality, I'd rather be comfortable.

That is so considerate to keep in mind what everyone can or cannot eat. A lot of people wouldn't care. I can't remember the last time I hosted a formal dinner with guests. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I attended a formal dinner. It has to be a couple of years ago.

It's been quite a bit of time for me. I think that I would rather have them be able to eat what I serve, If they didn't I might get my feelings hurt.

We don't usually invite anybody in our home for dinner. We usually go out and have dinner at a hotel when it's a formal one. I'm sure everything will turn out perfect!
