When I was in high school, many years ago, the progressive school I attended offered us a choice of some very enticing courses. Out of the wonderful choice I chose to take archeology. I loved the class. I love it so much that I decided then and there that I was going to become an archeologist someday. I couldn't wait to go to college and study this fascinating subject. By the time I got to college I had decided to go in a different direction. I was still interested in archeology but my passion had become Special Education. SOmewhere along the way I relized that digging in the dirt may be wonderful and the discovery of historical pieces was a way to give back to society, Ialso found out that you are outside, it is hot and sticky and I just could not see me spending my life deoing thi.s. What a silly girl I was. I still wonder if I should have gone ahead and gone in the direction of archeology because I have definitely retained my interest in it. I loved working with the special children and being involved in Special Olympics. I wouldn't trade it for the world but archeology still seems to be calling my name. Did you ever feel torn between two very different specialties?

I am pret5ty sure that they make their money by grants. I was someone who was interested in so many diffe4re4nt things that I had a very hard time settling down.

@TiarasOceanView I believe that if I was going to become an archeologist I would have done it years ago when I was in better shape physically.

@HazySue You had two good career choices and took the one that was best at the time. I've only ever had one career, but many jobs.

My mother loved her archeology class she took when she was going to college. Yeah I felt like that when I went to college. I loved psychology in high school, and I love to write. I decided to get a paralegal degree instead.

I was a general ed teacher and later became a special ed teacher. I never regretted my career choice. However, I always wanted to be a heart surgeon. My mother talked me out of it. She told me I'd marry and have children after all those years of schooling and have to give it up. I listened to her old school way of thinking. lol. Later on, after I had my children, I mentioned returning to the university to pursue my dream of being a heart surgeon. He was all for it, but was afraid of where my residency would be. We both decided we wouldn't want me far from my children or for him to give up his budding career. Now I know that residents can request to be near home. Oh, well. Perhaps in my next life.

You have a keeper of a husband. It is wonde4rful that he was behind you in reaching your goals. I can not blame the two of you for being leery of where you would be placed for residency, it could have been anywhere. Sometimes we have to put our dream aside.

I agree it would be interesting but it probably isn't for me. We recently visited a site in France where a 'dig' was taking place.

I pretty much decided that it wasn't for me when I went to college but still I am fascinated by it and wonder how it would have gone if I had gone into that field.
