Today Is The First Day Of The Traditional Malayalam New Year In My State.

Kerala,the southern most state of India is where I live. August 17 that is today is the 1st day of the of Chingam, the traditional Malayalam New Year.
All are happy to welcome this month as Onam ,the harvest festival of Kerala is celebrated in Chingam which corresponds to the month of August or September.
Though Onam is a Hindu festival,it is considered the National festival of my state and all irrespective of their caste or religion participate.
Chingam Month is busy with fairs, marriages, feasts and especially shopping for the people .
I am sure @Sreekala may have more to say about it.

Happy New Year my dear. Today my mobile is flooded with wishes in the form of images and videos.
Finally the Ramayanam month is over, which is considered as a poverty month, then Chingam is here which is meant for plentiness. The clouds on Karkkidakam is over, prosperity replaced there with much enthusiasm. I am sure Kerala is already prepared to celebrate Onam which is coming soon.
In fact I missed the Ramayanam month, I really enjoyed the Ramayanam month a lot this time.

I was not exactly aware of Chingam, though I have many Keralite friends/colleagues. Happy Malyali New Year and to everyone who celebrate this auspicious occasion.
