Unfair to call work at home people lazy

I've noticed that a majority of people work at home these days. With so many ways to earn money online, there's an increase in freelancers who tend to work from home. However, there is one thing that many freelance face when working at home and that's criticism from others. I've heard people say that work from home people are lazy or they don't do anything except play on the computer all day. To me I think these criticisms are unfair. Just because we don't work a regular job doesn't mean we're lazy. We're just like everyone else trying to earn a living, although sometimes it can be difficult. Sure our work may not be as strenuous as other jobs, but we still put in a lot of hard work. In this day and age, everyone's doing what they can to earn money, whether they're working at home or not. So it's not right to look down on someone based on where they work. Do you think it's unfair for work at home people to be criticized?

It is not right for other to criticize people working at home. Work from home is a good thing to happen because people does not need to endure traffic.

@jobelbojel Exactly! There's plenty of reasons why people choose to work from home and people shouldn't assume they're lazy.

@dramagirl26 yup. They save on gas. And some on shampoo because they don't need to take a shower or bath before going to work. Lol.

Criticism is part of our life. We cannot control other people from giving negative remark or disapproval on something that we do. One reason is that they do not understand the nature of this work. The opportunity to work online is appreciated by few people. Although there are an increasing number of individuals who are open to this concept, still many people do not know about it. We cannot blame them. But I guess, if it would be explained to them, they will understand. I never heard from the people around me that they criticize this kind of work. Actually, they are amazed. I think and even if they want to do this too, they just can't due to several factors such as not having a reliable connection.

@dramagirl26 They will be more surprised if they would see you in the next year or so with a better status. That would be the time they'd be asking you how to do it.

For me, it really depends on each situation. A lot of times the people who work from home might be considered Lazy because they are also getting benefits of some sort, and most of them never consider reporting their earnings or find ways to put the earnings in someone else's name and such. But the real True work from home person is far from Lazy and depending on their skills, work ethic, etc. can be quite productive both physically and money wise. Due to having Fibromyalga I am stuck to earning online for extra money or selling some stuff via OfferUp, or the Local Flea Market etc. I dare a person call me LAZY.

@KrauseHome Real work at home people put in the hard work to make a living and it's people who try to cheat the system that gives work at homers a bad name.

@dramagirl26 Yeah, our job is not easy and it's 24/7. I can't stand when people say it's easy, it's amazing but not always easy.

Good thing it's the opposite around here. Some are even envious of people working at home. In here, they are deemed smart and resourceful.

I agree it's unfair. As long as we are earning it doesn't matter from where. Who are they to decide. And work from home is not an easy job, it needs lots of efforts.

Of course it is unfair, it's now where you work that makes a difference. We worked from home for years and we worked many more hours of those who went to work at their office.

@dramagirl26 My husband has always been self employed, he has his office inside our home. There was no difference that to go out and to go to his own office, only it was closer.

Writing is hard work for little pay, yes at one time the money was fabulous, and with so many available now its a tough market. I have NOT played games online in several years because I don`t have time when I am online. I am trying to make extra money. I also work a full time job at home, with pay, I took in a cancer patient and its like tending to a newborn baby at times, while I have him past that stage now, it is extremely hard work. AND I work outside the home on a few rental houses I own. I have not hit that time clock for anyone else since I was 21 year old. That is when I became a work at home woman, running my own businesses. I dare anyone to keep up with one of my days as a work at home woman.

I definitely wouldn't say that a majority of people work at home. A majority of people leave their homes to go out and work in the world. Maybe MORE people are working online due to losing their jobs or increased online opportunity, but there definitely are more jobs outside of the home than from home.

hmmmm.. I think it's better to say practical rather than laziness. I work from home and the job is not easier than the ones they do in the office. I would say that my office work is tedious but my home-based job is more rewarding (better pay offs) and great because it gives me more time and more time is what I need.

It is DEFINITELY unfair to criticize people who work from home. there are people who cannot work outside of their home. Bedridden people for example, or people with mental disorders who can simply not function in a busy and noisy workspace. People should be grateful that they make a conscious effort to earn their own money and do whatever they can to participate in society.

I worked VERY hard to get to work from home. I've worked for this company now for nearly 7 years, and I've only been virtual the last 2. I didn't give up, I just kept working at it. I find I tend to work MORE than I did when I was in the office, in fact, I have to watch myself that I don't over do it. I don't care what anyone else thinks. I know the truth. I ain't driving in snow for two hours each way to prove anything to ANYONE!

Very unfair, especially as society is turning more towards work at home positions.
