Chew On The Left For Now

After having a tooth filled, the dentist told me to chew on the left side of my mouth for now.
However, it's so easy to forget this and chew as normal when you've only had a filling, not a tooth extraction, or new appliances installed on your teeth or gums.
Only then are you conscious of the pain, or the strange feeling in your mouth, pause before each bite, and remember to eat carefully.
Did you ever forget your dentist's instructions and regretted it?

Oh I just posted a response and got to read this.
Three weeks ago I had a filing and I was never told not to chew using that tooth. I just ate and chewed like I normally would immediately right after.

@toniganzon I also had no problems, we have no more problems with the new fillings and they look identical to our teeth.

How long do you have to chew on that one side? I had a broken tooth that was fixed a few years ago, and then just one cavity filled maybe last year. I had the same process that @LadyDuck mentioned on both . . . I could eat right away. My kids have had cavities filled the same way, but they were told to eat soft foods until the numbness went away . . . but other than that they could eat normally.

@LadyDuck The old kind of fillings were done when I was a kid - so I don't really remember how it was back then! I just remember the process being more painful than what my kids have to go through today (it's literally completely painless for them).

I try not to go against the dentist's recommendations - it isn't easy however! Of course I have not had a filling in many years but I have lots of other dental and gum work done.

i've only had either fillings or extractions. it's easy to be remember and careful when i've had extractions, for sure. which instructions did you tend to forget?

sounds traumatic. was it a tooth extraction? maybe an ice pack would help.

yeah, because chewing is automatic. you don't consciously think about it as you're doing it, except when you've had an extraction or maybe had braces, dentures, etc put on. have you ever had a bad experience after a dental procedure?

Since I have had teeth problems ever since I can remember, I usually listen very carefully to the dentist for if I don't, I am quickly reminded by the discomfort or pain. I hope your pain has gone!

i'm sorry to hear that. it's not painful actually, it's only a filling after all, but i remind myself to follow as instructed.

Yes, I hate when I have to change the side I chew on, it takes a while for me to get into that habit. Hope you heal quickly so you can chew on whatever side you want.

It is so easy to forget especially if you have a favorite side to chew on!

I had a filling about three weeks ago but my dentist never told me to not chew using that tooth. I guess my dentist is using a different kind of filler than yours.

I was treated months ago on one of my tooths and the dentist advised me to take good care of it. I tried to eat more liquids and after some days, I continued normally, eating regular food

No, in my case he is saying chew on your right.
It's such a pain literally to visit a dentist that I think we should take very good care of our teeth
