Too Late Now....Have to Wait 6 Weeks

I usually go with a medium natural blonde when I choose a dye for my hair. I am not totally gray, but have platinum highlights that are not to my liking. My product of choice is John Freida. The medium natural blonde leaves my hair with a slight reddish tone. It is also lighter than my natural blonde color. So I decided to try the dark caramel blonde. It is a bit darker than I am use to. I keep looking at myself in the mirror and shake my head in disbelief. Wish I had stayed with the same color. Have you ever colored or cut your hair and knew that you made a mistake. I keep telling myself that I'll get use to the color. The other words I say is that I can color it again in 6 weeks to the color I prefer. Here is a link to the color I used:
7NBG Salon Blends Dark Caramel Blonde - John Frieda® Precision foam colour shade guide. Select a shade no more than two levels away from your current hair colour.

When I last cut my hair two years ago, i cut it to my shoulders from middle of my back.. I was all for it until after it was done. Lol.

I did that many years ago. My hair was nearly down to my waist and I had it cut to just below my shoulders. I wore my hair short for about 3 years and had such long hair envy that I decided to let it grow back. Now I only have it trimmed about 2-3 inches every year.

@Courtlynn it is getting a little annoying. Have been thinking about cutting off another 4-6 inches.

This is close to my natural color. However, I prefer my hair to be a bit lighter than this. It will take some time getting adjusted to the change.

@ElusiveButterfly I knew that my husband would have not appreciated, so I rushed to correct my mistake.

Every time I cut my hair I feel this way. I am used to long(past my butt) hair and short hair bugs me. I won't even go into the coloring.

I wish I could be happy with shorter hair. I just don't like it so short. As to dying my hair, I would like it to be a lighter blonde. Those dang roots show so fast though.

@celticeagle I am not sure I will ever completely stop dying my hair. I would like to have a hairdresser work their magic for me, but can't afford that.

@ElusiveButterfly ..........I don't like mine short either. I gave up dying mine because the roots show so quickly. It's slowly going grey with an entire area of grey in the front.

I have done this many times. I stupidly have redyed it after being unhappy with the results however.

If I could afford to have highlights put in that would resolve the problem. However, the cost for that is $60 and up.

@kobesbuddy I only do mine every 6 weeks or longer. It had been nearly 3 months since my last color.

I walked around with chemical orange hair for a month, I couldn't recolour straight away because I had used bleach, I got some very interesting comments that month... Sorry you don't like the new colour, hopefully the days will fly and you can return to the colour you prefer.

I wonder if you could have used a Henna rinse?

@bluesa there are many that actually dye their hair that color. Not me though. I am not that brave. I would like to dye it dark purple though. LOL

I only colored my hair once, and have been getting it professionally done ever since!

If I had extra money to play with I would get it done professionally. Hubby is finally back to work. Hoping that he doesn't get laid off again.

Amazingly enough, I colored my hair last night, too. I used Clairol's root touch-up that was supposed to match any light auburn... "Flawlessly matches any brand" not! My hair is so dark now, it scares me when I look in the mirror. Good thing there was enough to cover all my hair (I have so little of it). Oh well, I can always wash it with dandruff shampoo, which is supposed to tone down hair color.

Oh really? I guess I'll be making a trip to get a bottle of it tonight! I have used the root touch up too and sometimes it makes it look really odd. So, I stay away from it and just do the entire head of hair when it is time.

@BarBaraPrz I just want the darker tones to be a little lighter.

@ElusiveButterfly It lightened the color a bit but it's still dark. At least it looks dark red and not black now. A few more washes should do it.

maybe you can search online on natural ways to lighten hair color, like say apple cider vinegar?

I know that lemon juice lightens the hair, but it also dries the scalp. Too astringent for my sensitive skin.

@ElusiveButterfly maybe apple cider vinegar will work? maybe just on the hair, not the scalp?

I've done this before as well. I hate when you have to strip the color out in order to even be able to dye it again. Such a pain.

I have decided to suck it up and deal with it. This is close to my natural color and I have contemplated going that route for a long time.

I have stuck with the same color and brand (Nice n Easy) for years and years. I don't know what I would do if they stopped selling my color as I really don't want to experiment with another brand or color. Maybe it will get a bit lighter as you wash it over the next week or so?

It'll grow faster if you don't stress yourself about it that much. ;)

Maybe you will like it after a few washes? Next time I dye my hair I plan on doing something really different. Not sure how it will turn out, but I am ready for a change.

I am going to stick with my medium natural blonde next time. I'll deal with the ginger tones better than I do this dark color.

Yes, I've done this before. One time I went with dark/brown, what a mistake! I ended up with black hair, which looked absolutely awful on me!

My hair was light blonde and I prefer it that shade. However, my hair grows so fast that it left that line down the center of your part that wasn't flattering. I thought it best to use a darker shade. It is nearly the same as my natural color.
