Yes, the aftermath of Irma is raising her ugly little head again. My husband just called with the news that our nieces house now has a tree resting on her house. Actually both on and in her house. Apparently that large tree could no longer hang in their and it's root just paint let go. It landed on the left side of her house taken roof and part of the wall with it. Oh yes, it has also taken power lines so there are people without power once again. Unfortunately she lives in Montana and comes down here for a month every year. So my hubby is over there trying to get everything all straightened out. Life is sure strange, isn't it?

Once the soil becomes oversaturated, it becomes easy for trees to topple over in the slightest wind, especially if they were already leaning for whatever reason. The wet soil just can't hold onto the root system of the trees any longer, and they just topple over.

She wasn't thrilled. Unfortunately, for reasons I totally don't understand, she had no homeowners insurance.

Just be glad that you don't have a mayor who decided to open flood gates to prevent high end homes from flooding but caused devastation to those areas in it's wake. I can't believe the Mayor of Houston allowed all that to happen.

I can't either, I don't know why he thought to protect the few at the expense of many.

Life is strange. I hope that the house isn't real damaged by the tree.

I do have the house to myself except for one person who is here to watch me. We haven't hear anymore from her since the first call. My daughter her husband, and their children will be here a week from this coming Friday.

Unfortunately, due to a record rainy season, the soil here in Florida is saturated to the point that it's not going to be able to hold up many of these big trees that were left leaning by Irma. They have told us here in Gainesville that we could see trees falling for at least another two weeks. I remember that's also what happened in 2004 after all the hurricanes.

I remember the 2004 hurricane and it's aftermath well. My husband had someone come out and look at this tree and they told him that the root structure was indeed weaken by Irma. I am at the point where I wish she would just stop caused havoc.

In our neighborhood a 35-year-old tree uprooted itself one day, we were shocked to see one early morning :(

It is weird how this happens from time to time. Was it during rainy season?

Sorry to hear about your nieces house but she's lucky your husband is able to help. Thankfully no one was home. I'm sure that those without power are pretty upset though.
