Imagine the darkness

My image is of a fireworks display two years ago. Imagine the darkness if there were no fireworks, no moon rising, no sun setting, no streetlights.
We sat on the porch swing last night, in the dark, cool, fall, night air.
With no distractions, other senses come into play. I do admit half a block away is a light pole, and the occasional truck or car drove by, but it was mostly soft darkness.
That is when you hear the tree frogs, and the crickets.
The herbs in the garden are a subtle under current.
I especially could smell the lemon grass behind us.
The night, for me, was a calming place to sit, relax, and get ready to go to sleep.

When the weather permits I enjoy sitting outside on the porch. There isn't total darkness, but dark enough to enjoy the calm of the night. The slight breeze that cools the skin after a long hot day. The sound of the peepers singing their night song in the distance.
One night as we sat outside there was a rustling in the back woods. The sound became louder and it became evident that our resident bear was coming in for his midnight snack at the neighbor's trash bins. We hightailed it for the door.

@GardenGerty it comes as no surprise that we see them around here. People are clearing land way too quickly. Where are they to go?

@ElusiveButterfly They learn to live out of garbage cans and get punished for it.

That is a little bigger critter than we have around here, although I have heard that there at least used to be bears in Kansas.

One of these days we will be able to share all of that online. You know you can get a stalk of lemon grass and root it in water and grow it. You have to get a piece that has a long stalk.

@TiarasOceanView Soapy water is supposed to keep gnats away. I don't know, though.

@GardenGerty Oh yes we will eventually I am sure..even the smell online huh? Oh I need to find some lemongrass and root it then..I have a plan not to have any plants in here that cannot be grown in water as the gnats come without fail if I have soil in here in this apartment. I am sad I cannot have potted plants in here.

You mean to say you did not get to share in our clouds and rain. I know the moon would be beautiful if we did not have the clouds.

@GardenGerty It is clear here, I looked at the sky last night and the moon is almost full, bright and beautiful. No clouds at all.

This is something I am going to start doing more. It is a good way to meditate, and on star lit nights I am blown away by the whole creation.

@GardenGerty I need to find a nice place where I can see a star filled sky. I do miss that.

It is interesting to me that scientists tell us that going camping for a weekend can reset our body clock and help those who cannot sleep well.

@GardenGerty I do think that it can for some people. I seem to be one of those that does not seem to respond to resetting of my body clock. I have found however that I sleep better when I am camping.

Definitely. We would visit the grand parents' and go to sleep to the sound of wildlife and the glimmering lightning bugs.

@GardenGerty I agree. It is the moment to find time for oneself.

Grow yourself some lemon grass and other lemony herbs. I put a dab of lemon grass oil on collar and cuffs and it seems to repel really well.
