Would Religious Members Cheat On MyLot?

I don't know what has caused it - maybe a change in the weather? - but today the site seems to contain more religious posts than usual. Not only Christians, who tend to be the busiest missionaries, but also Muslims want to save the souls of unbelievers or believers in the wrong God(s). I don't know what has caused me to check two of such edifying posts - maybe a change in the weather? - to see if they were genuine or copied. Isn't that a heretical deed? Shouldn't believers, no matter what religion they believe in, be exemplary, honest, upright, reliable, law-abiding, etc., etc. people - role models for the unsaved masses? Yes, they should, because if they are not, they will go to hell. The result of my research is: the gap between the religions isn't so deep after all. One can find goodies and baddies here and there. Both posts contain plagiarised content.

When I see religion discussions, I skip that one, when I see bashing of politics, I skip that one. Why? Because only that person`s view is the correct view and I do not have time for such closed minded people. Now do not get me wrong I am religious but I feel like this, to each his own.

That's the best attitude. I don't want to read that I MUST believe this or that or else . . .

Yikes! You made me nervous with this post. (No I am not blaming you. Just typing unedited version of my thoughts. ) Yesterday I posted a discussion which did discuss a practice followed by a religion. I posted that very tentatively and tried not to come out as preaching. I am not fond of preaching either. I am also allergic to religious supremacy competitions! I am sorry if it offends anyone but I don't believe there is a perfect or a supreme religion. I am a religious person myself so my previous statement also includes the religion I practice. I will much prefer if instead of preaching or asserting their supremacy, they would rather promote virtues that gives humanity a good direction. For example: Go help the needy. Be a volunteer. Feed the poor. Do any type of selfless service. P. S. Even though I did write my post myself, I still ran it through the plagiarism checker. You never know because some phrases and sentence structure are so common that they get caught in the plagiarism checker. I should know since I write articles as a freelancer. It's irritating when it happens!

It was the post about the Gurdwara ? I found it interesting and consider it more like a post about a touristic monument than a post about religion. Nobody needs to be a believer to visit a religious building. I have a friend who is an atheist and wrote her thesis about the architecture of Roman churches.

I agree. It's funny how most religions can be distilled down to: Seek peace. Help the poor. Don't be a jerk.

I haven't generalised and claimed that all religious posts are plagiarised. Yet, it's a shame that some are.

Oh sheesh - you'd think that those sort of people would play by the rules. Perhaps they don't realise what plagiarism is, and are just trying to spread the 'word'. I never read religious posts, I dislike being preached at.

I am Jewish and we are not missionaries. People come to our religion because they found something they did not find anywhere else. I wonder when someone wants to convert to Judaism and why they want to do it. I did not try to convert someone to my religion. I am proud of my heritage.

The jewish thing is a bit different in my humble opinion. That's because I think being a jew can be a religious thing, a racial thing or a combination of both. I think the correct word is ethnoreligious?

No, they don't want to 'share'. They want to convince you that what you believe is wrong and that they are right.

I tend to stay away from Religious posts, political posts and posts about racist content. A few years ago I wrote on another site and I noticed that posts about that would litterally start a massive argument. The writers of those posts got their contacts to dislike other writers posts who did not agree with what they had to say. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should not be told that they need to believe something that someone else believes about a situation. We are not all the same, whiche means that we won't have the same point of view.

Indeed! If this were my site, I would have included a rule in the Guidelines, namely 'no posts on religious or political topics'.

If it weren't for the various "good book"s, these folk would have little to say. Quoting chunks of scripture as if it were your own can't be good for them or anyone else...

I am afraid I avoid religious posts. If I want to read about religion I will read my bible. If I want to bake a cake I will pick up a cooking book! I prefer to read interesting stories and object to being preached at however well meaning the person may be. I have met some awful so called Christian people who should practice what they preach as opposed to ramming it down others necks!

I like religious discussions, sometimes, but do not agree with the Muslim way of thinking cause I am Catholic and as for plagiarists, I think there is a special kind of hell for them.

Are both (posts) gone by now? I believe studies have shown self-proclaimed "religious" people to be no more or less moral than others in their reasoning or actions.

It depends on what you mean by plagiarised. If you mean people copying verses from the bible...that won't be seen as plagiarism. If you mean people copying something along the lines of a discussion point from somewhere else that contains a bible verse then that would be considered plagairism as it is a copied point of view. I know I'm not explaining very well but I know what I mean
