Urband legends- What are They?

With Halloween week arriving I thought it might be interesting to discuss urban legends and see if anyone else has one they could share. An urban legend, is a form of modern folklore, usually consisting of fictional stories, often with gory or ghostly elements, that have been experienced by locals to that area. These legends can be used for entertainment purposes, as well as semi-serious explanations for random events such as disappearances and strange sightings.
Despite its name, an urban legend does not necessarily originate in an urban area.
Urban legends are spread by any media, including newspapers, e-mail and social media. An example in America happened in 1938, with a radio dramatization of The War of the Worlds. The broadcast by Orson Welles supposedly caused mass panic over the possibility of being taken over by Martians from the planet Mars.
We have an urban legend in my neighborhood having to do with the Palace Amusements, a boardwalk enclosure with rides and a fun house in Asbury Park, NJ (U.S). It has been said when this structure was torn down people walking by it at night could hear sounds of amusement rides and children screaming.
By the way, that Welles broadcast was on Halloween. Which ties into the spookiness of scary stories, monster costumes, tricks or treats, and perhaps an urban legend of your own.
Do you have an urban legend in your town, county or state? Or have you ever heard a urban legend story you can share?

The closest thing I can think of is that a vampire is supposedly buried in the cemetery in Louisville, Colorado.

@dgobucks226 - We went to the grave one night. Instead of a headstone he has a crude cement slab, and an ugly, gnarled tree unlike any other in the cemetery is growing out of the grave. It's kind of cool.

I do enjoy the Urban Legends. One around here is called Hatchet Man. A bunch of us used to go up to a old military cemetery in the foothills here. If you go to the gate and then turn around and look up in the foothills there is a spot that looks like a cave entrance. That's where Hatchet Man used to live. Near there was a mental hospital and the legend goes that he escaped living in the cave. Fun to scare newcomers to the group with the story.

I like that story.
We have another called the Atco ghost. A little boy was struck by a car and killed by a drunk driver. Legend goes his spirit haunts the accident site.

@celticeagle I have to check that program out! As an adult I seem to like eerie things more than when I was a kid.

I know there are lots of folk tales or urban Ledgens around, the one that came to mind is St. Catharines has a cemetery that used to be huge and now has a highway cutting it into two. No one knows where the burried people were moved or if they were just left under the highway...

@dgobucks226 Australia is getting more and more into it. Of course, the shops all promote it as it sells stuff. It wasn't around when I was a child - but that's a long time ago.
