It Feels Like the Desert in Southern California

For the second day in a row, the high temperature in Southern California has reached over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. That is almost 38 degrees Celsius. For those of you who have been watching the baseball World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros, you have heard them talk about the incredible heat on the field. It is impressive these players can even run around the bases in this heat! During the first game (which Los Angeles won), nineteen fans were treated for heat related problems and three of those ended up in the hospital. I will be so glad when the temperature returns to normal! We are expected to cool off in a few more days. It can't happen soon enough for me! I hope the weather is more pleasant where you are. (The photo I used is of Joshua Tree National Forest in the Southern California Desert)

Nope, but I literally live in the desert, so expected. Must be tough on you coastal dwellers. It will be nice when fall hits in California.

@crossbones27 - Yes, it has been hard on us coastal dwellers! Things are starting to cool off a little. Only 96 degrees for the high today. By Monday or Tuesday, the highs will only be in the 70s, which will be much more comfortable!

That is hot. We have a few days over the 100F every summer. I'm always pleased that we can stay inside out of such extremes.

@JudyEv - I like to spend time outdoors nearly every day, so I have particularly resented this heat. I've still gotten in a little walking early in the morning, but not as much as normal. This is VERY rare for late October!

That is really hot for this time of year. So first the fires then the heat, what next? Snow? Heck, snow would actually be a relief wouldn't it?

It's just as rare here @DeborahDiane although we did get a little snow in 2015 which lasted almost a half day.

@rebelann - That is interesting that you got snow in 2015 in El Paso, and we got it here in Huntington Beach. I don't remember 2015 well, but it must have been a weird weather year!

@rebelann - Ha Ha! Snow would be a delight. A few years ago, it actually snowed lightly in Malibu and Huntington Beach. It was amazing!! I attached a photo that a friend of mine took. It is so rare here, that when I worked at a local high school, there were many children who had never seen snow in person! That's a life guard station in the photo! LOL Notice the palm trees in the background!

That does sound incredibly hot especially for this time of year. What would your normal temperatures be?

@Marilynda1225 - The normal highs in the middle of summer are the mid 80s. The normal highs in the middle of winter are the low 70s. It almost never gets up to 100 where I live and it virtually never freezes. It is a very mild climate and many people who live near the ocean do not have air conditioners. So, this heat wave is especially unusual, particularly since it is the end of October!

We had an unusually warm fall until a couple of days ago in the Chicago area. This morning it was 31 when I got up at 7 am. And that is unusually cold. Weird.

@fishtiger58 - Wow! That is a huge swing! If it was that cold here in Southern California, I would be complaining about the "deep freeze." I guess I just want our perfect weather back! LOL

@fishtiger58 - A lot of people apparently feel like you do, since 10.7 percent of all Americans live in California. I guess I should not tell more people how great it is here, since we don't need any more residents! LOL

That sounds like our hot days of summer. I hope you guys get relief soon. It was cold here today. 45 degrees, I turned on the heat this morning and nothing happened. We called maintainance and someone came to check the furnace. The pilot light had gone out. But alls well. We have the heat on now.

@RubyHawk - I'm so glad that they were quick to get the heat back on! 45 degrees would be pretty chilly without it.

@Hannihar - I have a friend who is going to go on a cruise to Israel and other places in October. She is very excited about her trip. I hope the weather is nice while she is there.

@Hannihar - No, this friend is not Jewish. She is not particularly Christian either. She is not very religious. I'm not sure how long she will specifically be in Israel, since her cruise ship will also go other places. I wonder if she is aware there will be Jewish holidays in October? I will have to ask her.
