November 1-7th has been designated National Animal Shelter Week by www.NationalDayCalender.com. It is a way to recognize shelters who provide care and homes for abandoned and stray pets. From providing a safe place, to vacinating incoming strays, to investgating animal cruelty, these shelters have a useful purpose for sure! The day is also dedicated to the hard-working people who support the efforts of the shelters and keep pets healthy. This observance was founded by The Humane Society of the United States to celebrate the good work these animal shelters do across our country. Have you ever donated to an animal shelter? Adopted a pet? Volunteered your time? Source- National Day Calender Photo- pinterest.com/google images

I love the shelter. I have friends who buy pedigree dogs occasionally, but I always wish they'd get a shelter pet. I have thought on volunteering to the shelter - but I would want to take everything home. My cat (now my mom's cat) came from the shelter. She's wonderful.

A soft spot for pets! It is hard to see them caged up and staring at you with their expressive faces.

We have no pets, but should I decide to get one it would be an animal from a shelter.

Tha'ts neat. California banned store and breeder selling of dogs and cats. Have to go to a shelter to get one if one wants. Well, if you do not want to go to people jail.

I have donated. And each dog I had was from someone who could not keep them. One was too tiny, the other was because people had to move from a house to a flat and missy Daisy was because big dogs kept attacking her and they needed to keep the big dogs for safety purposes, So missy Daisy became our baby. :)

Yes, I did donate to an animal shelter. That is good they are being honored. Here in Jerusalem they are so overcrowded it is so so sad. One has had an adoption day where they would bring pets to a place for people to adopt them.

@dgobucks226 Yes, it is if the animals get to go to a good home. I hope they still do it. The shelter is so overcrowded with animals that they needed to do something to find homes for them.

That is such a great idea. My daughter adopted a cat that was left behind by a neighbor when they moved. There were two and another woman took one of them. They had been abused. The one my daughter took stayed under the couch for about six months. It was so sad. She is a different cat now days. A little love and good food and she is a spoiled brat now. Haha

The stray cat I found many years ago was scared and wary like you mentioned. Food and love are all that's needed to gain acceptance. I had 13 good years with my cat
