The Girl Scouts of the USA have accused the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) of trying to boost revenue by opening up its membership to girls. The Girl Scouts organization claims the Boy Scouts decision is based solely on boosting revenue to cover past sexual abuse settlements. Until 2017, the Boy Scouts of America's official position was that girls could not participate in its Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting programs. On October 11, 2017, the Boy Scouts announced that girls would be allowed to become Cub Scouts, starting in 2018, and that in 2019, a separate program for older girls will be available, enabling girls to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Both the Girl and Boy Scouts have been suffering major declines in membership over the past few years. Some reasons given were competition from sports leagues, a perception by some families that they are old-fashioned and busy family schedules. Do you forsee any problems with this change in BSA's membership policy? Is admitting girls into the Boys Scout programs fair to the Girl Scouts? Should the name of the Boy Scouts of America now be changed? What do you think? Source- newsmax.com & Wikipedia Photo- thedailybeast.com/google images

I think they should change the name.

What is the point - when there already is a Girl Scouts organization.

@Daelii Do the girl scouts not go on camping trips and do similar activities? That is surprising?

@dgobucks226 When I looked into doing it, alls they could talk about for kids activities was to sell cookies and learn business skills. I did find splinter group called American Heritage Girls which was created by people who left the girl scouts to focus on better activities that can enrich a girl's life.

I don`t know what`s the point of giving girls an activity like that but I hope they will not put girls into militaries

That is an interesting take on the subject! Fortunately, all of these programs in the USA are voluntary.

I also think the mame should be changed to be inclusive of both genders.

Hmmm...if they are going to allow girls into the boy scouts, the name will definitely have to be changed. And this might cause an even bigger drop in girls joining the girl scouts. I think there are fights ahead, the Girl Scouts organization won't want an even bigger drop in numbers.

The Australian scouting movement allowed girls into the organisation in 1971. In this day and age, I think it's a good thing.

That's good to hear. With success in your country it should work for the U.S too.

If they are going to do this, shouldn't boys be allowed to join the Girl Scouts?

Boy Scouts admitting girls is ridiculous, something almost unbelievable, to say the least. It's a subject that should never even be considered, it's that far fetched!
