Bomb threats, seriously

I stated last night that a school where one of my granddaughters attends, here in Kansas, found a hand written bomb threat in a girls' restroom, stating that a bomb would go off at 1 p.m. today. I kind of am skeptical, but on the other hand I do not blame any parent for keeping their kid home today. I grew up near an Air Force Base, in the Vietnam era. We had bomb threats so often that no one took them seriously. Today is a different story. We have shootings and bombs, etc. almost every day. Every kid knows about this. It could be real. Concerning to me: This person did not put it online, call it in, or have it on Social Media. They knew it could be easily traced. Kids who are screaming for attention, or kids who have been bullied will resort to things like this. Students who do not feel connected in any way. Middle school age is tumultuos. I hope this is a cry for attention or help. Thankful that steps are being taken for safety.

That's so bad. Hopefully it was just a prank. Any children's wounds will have an effect on their families so much. I hope the world will be much more peaceful and the children can grow up without any accidents.

@GardenGerty This kind of prank is very bad. But at least it is better than it really happens.

It has happened here in my little town a few times and once I believe school was delayed while they searched for bombs. Most kids were kept home by their parents.

You're right, it's a completely different world now than when the rest of us grew up. Even in the '90s when I was in middle school, they didn't take bomb threats seriously. Now it's a completely different story.

In our area they began taking this more seriously right after 9/11. The thing is it has been hard to change the culture around here, and sad that we would have to.Actually the guys that bombed the Murrah Building in OKC got their fertilizer component near where we live. The way life is now, any kid can make an explosive device with instructions from online.

@GardenGerty That's probably when they started taking it more seriously all across the U.S. Sad that that had to happen, but it's better safe than sorry. That's scary that the guys responsible for the OKC bombing got the fertilizer from near where you're at. And you're right, it's easy to find instructions for that stuff now. You can find anything online.

I do hope everyone stays safe there today. You would have to take these things seriously.

The police are obligated to take it seriously until it is proven to be otherwise.

We got them all the time while working in a call centre. We would ask call in threats what building it was in. If they didn't know how many buildings we had we ignored them. Never used to happen in any of my schools though.

I hope it turned out to be much ado about nothing. I believe that you have to tae the bomb threats seriously, you never now when it is real. What a shame.

Actually, as I read the online articles, the note was odd sounding, at least to me. It supposedly said "There will be a bomb threat at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow." In other words, no real threat, just someone saying ther would be one.

Or it could have been a real threat. Like you said you never know today. Yes, it was not called it but it is better to be safe than sorry I feel. It has to be checked out to see if it was real or not.

@GardenGerty Heather, that is why when people come to Israel and enter Ben Gurion airport our security asks many questions to save people. We have had bombs go off here and bomb threats. People have left bags or knapsacks around and forgot about them and then the robots check them out and blow them up at times.

Schools have become places to tread lightly today. Bullied and unpopular kids have in the past resorted to violence to send a message, It is a very sad commentary on society today.

Also kids just think things are "funny" when they are not.
