So we found her a coat

Sis baby sits a dog and walks him multiple times a day. She gets cold.
Sis smokes, and they have to be out of and away from the apartment. Her circulation is not great. She is seventy two years old.
She had a wonderful down coat, that has burn holes from sitting by a fire, and a torn place where something damaged it. So last year she got a new coat from a mail order company.
The company sizes run big. Her coat is too big but she never returned it. Someone told her to go to a certain outlet store, so she has been wanting to go.
They have good quality stuff, and excellent prices, but none of the women's coats she tried on met all of her specifications.
She did not want nylon outer. It needs to be machine washable. She wanted it as long as possible. It must fit around her with some room to wrap.
Did not find a woman's coat that filled the bill.
She finally decided on a man's coat, by a company called Canadian Gear. She started to claim it was too heavy, but in the end got it.
After all that, I hope she wears it.

Sounds like me when hunting for a coat, takes work! Hope she uses it and it keeps her toasty warm. It isn't fun to get cold and harder to stay warm with bad circulation, I know that as I have that along with severe anemia so I'm always cold it seems.

Yes. She was on blood thinners and became anemic as well. I am the type that seldom needs a coat. I understand her not wanting one with a nylon puffy shell, as she does smoke. My "playground coat" is lightweight, warm and long.

@Ithink I wear a coat for recess duty or if I have to be outside and away from home. I try to always have a coat in the car for me, just in case.

@GardenGerty I don't like the puffy ones as they just seem to get in the way. I'm always cold, now my husband hardly ever wears a coat even in the winter. Brrr

@sallypup She just feels like this one she has had for several years is a walking fire hazard. She is in a place where she can budget and plan for her own things and she enjoys doing so.

I hope so too. I never understood why she did not return the one last year, when she could, and get the right size.

@GardenGerty I knew a lady who didn't have any money so she duct taped the holes in her down jacket and carried on.

Sounds like the coat left some to be desired. She should make to measure instead of buying it off the peg.

That service is not readily available here, and is very expensive if you can find someone to do it.

Sounds a good coat, I hope that one suits her and that she will get some use out of it.
Oh my that her other coat had burn holes in it.

Oh, and the little dog scratched at it and tore a square corner tear. She does not like leaving feathers behind her.

The only thing that worries me is that she thought it was awfully heavy.

She seemed pretty happy. She has a coat she likes that only comes to her waist. That did not help.

It is a color she likes and it has a hood as well. She will be warm, but it is heavy.

She does. She has not taken falls, but if she were to fall it would help cushion her.

It is really heavy, rated to 10 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. It was the way she could get a longer coat, big enough to go around her.
