Speaking of healthier rice, this is the one, black rice. We call this variety as "ballatinaw"-- a variety of rice which should be glutinous but is so good when added with regular white rice. This is what I had this lunch, a black rice with the gingered soup base shrimps added with the petchay leaves. Though the rice is pricey but because of its uses and health benefits, many people try to have this in their table.

I don't think I've ever had black rice. It's good that it's healthier.

I remember a friend of my mother used to give us this black rice, balatinaw, from the mountain province. I think I already forgot how it tastes like. I also like dudumen. It's also a bit black, right? But it's not naturally black in color but because it was put on fire if I am not mistaken.

I eat whatever rice is the lowest cost so right now I have white rice I got on sale 1 lb for 25 cents. I bought 4 bags it should last me awhile. Brown rice is healthier though. Yellow rice is yummy but I have never heard of black rice before.

@ilocosboy probably just more common there. We can buy lots of different foods at wegmans from other countries but I hardly shop there unless I need something specific I can't find anywhere else.

This does look and sound so good. We usually cannot get special rice here and when we can it tends to be quite expensive. I don't eat rice too often so I stick with white but on occasion I get balsamic rice which I like.
