Another project is done

I just finished up another restoration project for a "customer." This one is an '80s Yamaha receiver or amplifier cabinet that had some scratches and a few missing corners. I used my special "water treatments" to get rid of the scratches, then replaced the missing veneer with some walnut veneer I have here. It's literally so thin that I cut it with scissors. Now, the cabinet is sanded and oiled and ready to go. I'll charge only $40 for this job, as it wasn't that difficult. The fella who brought me this actually restores the innards of vintage stereo gear, so he and I may do some "bartering." I have a 1971 Kenwood KR-5150 receiver that needs internal work, and he will have other speaker cabinets that need external work. I'm cool with "trades." What projects do you have going on this week? I'm also working on a pair of Dynaco A-40XL loudspeakers, circa 1975, and the edge of my 2016 Martin D-18 guitar.

Oooh, that is very pretty. I think that is a reasonable price to charge as well. I'm still working on a custom order of a doll, but it should be done today.

Do you have a picture? I'd like to see it. How quickly can you make one? I just started two new pairs of coasters, in case I run out of other projects.

@TheHorse Not yet, there will be done when it is completely finished. I have estimated up to 4 days depending on how much detail is going on and how many breaks I take.

No project this week. A good job you did there and I will trade/barter too, I always trade greens for pecans.

Heh. I've started harvesting snow peas on my balcony. But I don't have quite enough to trade for anything (three so far).

Thanks! What are you selling? How do you sell stuff in Germany? Here I often use Craigslist. I used to use eBay, but I got tired of shipping.

@m_audrey6788 Ah, sounds good. I just helped one of my kid clients get rid of and old...what was it?...an Xbox or something. He got $140 in store credit for it and was pretty proud of himself.

You did a nice restoration there. I don't have anything on the go. I've been spending too much time online.

I've spent more time on-line this week than in recent weeks. But I still have to see kid clients and do paperwork at my afternoon job. Here's the case before I oiled it, just for the heck of it. I like that stage, because it means the hard part is done.

@teamfreak16 It doesn't feel that cold outside, though the internet says 39 F. My guess is that it won't actually dip into the 20s. We'll see. I'm glad I'm erring on the side of caution.

About the only thing I have done lately is wrap presents, I think I wrapped the last 2 last night. Going to my brother's tomorrow for our "Christmas" so I guess it had better be!

@TheHorse I actually don't mind wrapping presents. I had set a goal to use up a bunch of old papers and managed to get rid of 6 or so partial rolls. Now I need to get the presents out to the car, looks like rain and I don't know if I want to do it today or wait until tomorrow.

Was getting it done more fun than the process? Or were you able to be "Zen" abut the process?

Well, project can include things like finishing up a poem, a story, etc. Yes, I like to slightly undercharge. I want everyone to be able to afford putting a good system together.

Restoration projects are great, I remember my grandfather did it too, when he was retired. He repaired almost everything and the neighbours visited him a lot. Myself, I do translations sometimes for some private clients like German people living in Spain and need some help.

@TheHorse It seems like the older generation learned more about "do-it-yourself", what we should learn all. Nowadays it's easier to throw away and buy new stuff. That turns into another problema like polution. I would like to have learned more from my grandfather!

Is the "receiver" you are referring to some sort of a Radio? Or some kind of 1970s Walkie-Talkie kind of a device?

The Kenwood receiver is a stereo receiver. It is a radio that attaches to speakers, plus you can attach a turntable (record player) or CD player to it.

That sounds satisfying. I know vintage speakers, and can replace resistors and capacitors, but that's about it. And I dare not open a computer without someone there who knows what he's doing.
