Kidney stone: the gift that no one wants

At my checkup with my kidney surgeon, he was pleased to say that all went well with the kidney stone removal and no more sign of infection.
Praise God for His healing touch!
I don't know yet exactly what kind of stone I had, but the doctor told me to increase citrus juices and fruit like orange juice, lemonade, oranges and other citrus fruits.
That's good 'cause I love anything like that.
The bad news was I need to cut back on my sweet tea. Something in the tea leaves are not good for kidney health.
Of course I've already cut way back on salt and trying to drink more water.
I asked him about drinking cranberry juice and he told me it might help prevent kidney infections, but not kidney stones.
Do you have any helpful advice about keeping your kidneys healthy?

I'll be okay avoiding beets and okra. I am trying to eat more oranges and drink orange juice.

@1creekgirl I had a kidney stone once and have no intention of ever having another. I've heard strawberries should be avoided.

Ok, I don't eat many of those. The doctor also mentioned something about avoiding some leafy green veggies also.

@1creekgirl I do believe spinach might be advised against though it's great defence against macular degeneration. You're caught whatever way you move.

@xFiacre True. Some things help one thing and hurt something else.

I've never had a kidney stone thus far (I say that because they run in my family). However, I had an ovarian tumor that twisted, and it was so painful the emergency room (twice) thought I was passing a kidney stone. If a kidney stone hurts like that tumor, I don't ever want one, either!!

@1creekgirl — thank you, but they cleaned me out in 1995. No more ovarian tumors to worry about. I guess the next double-over-in-pain pain will be a kidney stone.

My primary doctor suggested I buy frozen cranberries and blend them up to make a smoothie from them, rather than drinking premade cranberry juice. That is supposed to help prevent UTIs, which can lead to kidney infections.

They say coconut water is good for our urinary system. Maybe you should try drinking it. I don't want to have kidney stones but luckily no one in the family has one only gall stones
