Boiled Peanuts

I don't know about in other parts of the world, but here in South Carolina, it is not uncommon to go into a convenience store and see a couple of huge crock pots full of boiled peanuts. They usually have salty, and hot (spicy).
My husband used to get them often, so one day, oh about 10 years ago, I tried one. I thought it was disgusting, and vowed to never put another one in my mouth. And I didn't. At least until recently.
I was in the grocery store the other day, looking for snacks for the kids. I was looking at the chips and nuts, and noticed a can of boiled peanuts. I thought "ew" and kept going. As I continued my shopping though, something kept those peanuts in my mind. I ended up going back and getting a can.
After I had put the groceries away, I popped open the can of peanuts and put them in a pot to heat up. I tried one. I liked it. I tried another...it was delicious. I kept "trying" them until they were all gone and I found myself wanting more.
Well, since that day, I can not seem to get enough boiled peanuts. I don't know if they changed, or if my tastes changed, but what ever happened, I Love Boiled Peanuts!

@andriaperry How long do you boil them, and how hard of a boil? Do they get soft? I like them soft like beans.

WHen I was a teen I spent a lot of time at one particular friend's house. When she came back from visiting her grandparents in Oklahoma her family always brought back some peanuts. SHe and I would roast some in the oven for a snack. This was the first time I even realized that peanuts were picked and how they were prepared. I guess I just expected them to come ready cooked and ready to eat. I'm from the north.

@cindiowens They are legumes like beans. I wonder if anyone cooks them like baked beans. That's what they look like.

I'm from California and I've never heard of boiled peanuts -- even though my dad came from Texas, which is sort of southern. I like my peanuts roasted and salted.

We prepare all those at home. Home made are better than store bought. I like peanuts in any flavor

I wonder what happened this time to the boiled peanuts versus the other time you tried them that you ended up liking them. I have never had them so cannot comment if would like them or not.
