My Backyard

It's just another day in Paradise for me. I saw the sunrise at 7:06AM, had my morning walk, helped a neighbor with her groceries, and threw a palm frond into the trash. I could look at this view forever, but have no time today. We are having 11 guests on New Year's Eve for cocktails and appetizers before we head to a steakhouse for dinner under two miles away. Afterwards, we will have dessert back at our place, watch the fireworks over the water, and then stand in front of the TV to watch the ball drop in Times Square in New York City to ring in 2018. Then my husband throws everyone out! That's how we celebrate New Year's Eve in Florida. So today I must begin some prep work. How do you ring in the new year?

We have decided nothing, but I think that my husband should love to go out for dinner, come back home and go to bed when he is tired, just like last year, without feeling obliged to wait for midnight. We usually get up at the first fireworks, to toast to the New Year.

@DianneN We are so close to the border that we understand the fireworks of our compatriots. They can be pretty noisy. We went out for lunch, but we stayed at home for dinner, it snowed and it was very cold, I was a bit concerned about my husband. I know he was grateful I decided to make dinner. I received a very nice necklace.

It sounds lovely to me. I'm sure those fireworks wake you both up, so you are alert and wide awake! Hope you had a lovely anniversary yesterday. Did you figure out how to celebrate it?

I also have a backyard but it is a different color. I can't take it from the balcony as the door is frozen. This is from downstairs. I like yours better!

Usually my father in law has a party every year. In 2011 when he had cancer he did not have one understandably. Last year he did not have one either but they let us come down for a very small get together. I doubt we will be doing anything this year. My son is never impressed with new years eve lol

@DianneN each year he would fall asleep before midnight. The first year he finally managed to stay awake he was so disappointed the ball didn't actually drop. It made me laugh so hard and he was crying lol

Lol! The ocean is on the other side of those buildings. You can see the turquoise water between some of the buildings. Those buildings act as a buffer to protect us during hurricanes. The ocean views are boring and very costly. At least here we can see birds, boats, and fishermen. The newlyweds are fine and dandy. They are getting ready for their closing and haven't had a moment to look for houses, yet, with the holiday and parties, etc.

We spent many quiet years at home when the kids were infants. Chinese and a movie was perfect then. We got sick of going out with friends to overpriced and noisy restaurants. When I went back to teaching, we enjoyed celebrating in different countries around the world. Now, we have just another way. lol. And thank you!

That's a lovely plan for New Year's Eve and surely you are busy preparing for it this week! I am not sure what we're doing this year . . . for now I just know we're going to my parent's house on New Year's Day to eat a traditional Japanese New Year's feast.

@much2say I also miss things we've done in the past with family that are no longer here. At least your parents are continuing the tradition and hopefully, you will, too. No, we just sleep late and my husband watches football. I know that we will have dinner with our sister in law here or go out. She won't have any food in her place and refuses to let her buy her milk. lol

I'll be ringing it in by watching it in a comfortable pair of lounge pajamas I just bought, watching it on TV from Times Square and local as well. The local news station has been doing a live coverage with a ball in a city close to here. So as soon as the ball drops in Times Square, I'll switch over to the local one. I might also watch a movie or two as I wait for the countdown to begin. Enjoy your evening with friends. It sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. I wonder if I should go out and buy a New Year's Eve hat or something and really make some noise at midnight. Now, there's a plan.

@DianneN I'm sure you did. I wanted a new pair of lounge pants, but couldn't find any in my size, but found a set - shirt, pants, and slipper socks on another rack. I have the Frozen themed loungers and they are very comfortable. I never liked nightgowns. And I don't wear pajamas to bed either. I don't like anything that confines when I'm sleeping. I'm a tosser, so it would be very restrictive.
