I just read about the 13 captive siblings in California.

Sometimes I feel that in that giant country, so many incredible things happen that any thing you watch on TV is nothing compared to reality.
The last unbelievable thing I read in the news was the escape of a girl from her house that led to the police finding 12 other kids some of them tied to the bed and all in a stage of malnutrition.
The parents who had them that way were photographed. And they looked so evil in their pictures that I cannot understand why no one saw anything strange before.
Did you read about it?
Waht you you think abot all this?

I agree. They must have been captive for years. Anyone notices when a child does not ever come out. And, as it seems, some of the captives were not children anymore

@marguicha A neighbor actually admitted that she regretted not mentioning anything to social services. She had seen a few of them in the yard and she said they looked thin , scared and very white.

@Kandae11 It seems that now no one wants to get involved in anything.

I just read about this today. I don't understand how people can be so evil. Reminds me of the story about that guy "Angel" whoever who had the 3 young women locked in his basement for several years. He would get them pregnant and then beat them so they would miscarry. Also that guy in Germany who had his daughter, I believe, locked up in a basement for like a decade as a prisoner.

I remembered that too. What I don´t understand is how can they get away with it. I would think that even if a child is homeschooled, there must be some sort of check from a board so that they have been taught all their is to know at their age. And the children wouldd have to be seen by someone then, or by a social worker.

@NJChicaa It is a pity. At least from my point of view. I don´t mind if the children are taught "extra" subjects. But they should learn some subjects that schools teach. And at the same level.

@marguicha No, homeschool is pretty much a free-for-all in most states/districts. That's how parents get away with teaching their kids the Bible and cooking for "science".

This is an unbelievably wicked crime! I can't even comprehend how a mother and father could do such heinous things, towards those 13 precious children
I'm saddened by this terrible act of violence. All children deserve a loving home!

I hope the parents will be punished as they should. But I think that the children will have scars forever.

@kobesbuddy There are even some that are adults, yet they look like children. I hope the parents are put away forever.

@LadyDuck In some places, getting involved means a lot of trouble. I don´t know if that is the case.

Yes, it is big news here. What I don't understand is that some of the children were adults in their 20s -- how did they allow themselves to be held captive like that? (Not blaming them for it, I am just curious how that happens.) I have so many questions about those poor kids (including the adults.) How can anyone be so evil? Why do people even have children if they are going to do things like that?

There is a way that the captors make them accept anything.

It's so very disturbing! I am always extra shocked by these cases in which both parents apparently conspired together to abuse and neglect their children!
It's not unusual for a person to discover at some point that they chose a partner who has a dark side, is mentally ill or whatever. But for BOTH people to live this way, for so long? I am absolutely appalled and heartbroken.

True! And I cannot understand, in this age, to have 13 children only to torture them.
