Have You Had a Flu Shot?

Thousands of people in the U.S. have become sick with the flu and an unusually large number of people have died from it. I always get the flu shot every fall, and this year I am especially happy that I did. While we were in Las Vegas, my husband and I carried hand sanitizer with us everywhere, but I'm sure we still were probably exposed to a wide variety of viruses and bacteria. Because my husband has several serious medical conditions, we try to be especially careful about germs. Did you get the flu shot ... or have you had the flu this winter?

We usually get it each year. I think it is good insurance.

Just half of an insurance this year, there are 2 flu viruses and the flu shot targets only one.

@JudyEv I was forgetting this. Maybe they will have a better flu shot ready for your winter.

@topffer That's not so good then. I don't really know much about what viruses and how many we have. I guess not too many at the moment because it's summer.

I got a flu at the beginning of this month, but it was a kind one : 3 days of fever followed by a kind of cold. There is 2 major virus this year, so it gives me a "chance" to get another one. In France the flu did a lot less victims this year than last year.

I am glad the flu you had was the milder one. The flu has been very deadly here in the United States this year.

No, I did not get the flu shot and I had no flu. Many of my friends who had the flu shot are now sick. It is well known that this year the flu shot only very partially protected against the flu. It was prepared too early (February 2017). I never have a flu shot, I never had a flu in 67 years.

You are lucky, each time I cross somebody with a flu, I get it, I have even got 2 different viruses 1 year. It is another year with 2 big flu viruses, and it seems that the shot targeted only one.

@topffer Exactly, this year the shot only targeted one. My brother told me that his cabinet is full of sick patients. I stay three meters from him when we meet.

We always get the flu shot in October. Neither of us have gotten the flu since we began getting them in 1988. Knock on wood.

@DeborahDiane I get my vitamin C from taking lemon water the moment I wake up in the morning. I try to stay healthy with my food intake.

@toniganzon - I have heard that lemon water is the ideal way to start the day. I have only recently begun to drink it myself. I freeze lemon slices from our tree, and then put them in water each morning.

I am glad that we decided to get the flu shot, it doesn't show any sign of slowing down yet this winter.

Nope, never had one; never will. I have COPD and you'd think I'd be a huge target @DeborahDiane . I don't use hand sanitizer's or use antibacterial soaps. I run into sick people all the time and you'd think I'd get it. I even took care of my husband and his friend when they came down with the Hong Kong Flu back in the 80's and never got it. And we're talking about puk, pee, poop, fevers, coughs, etc for 8 days. I must have a good immune system because I don't get the shots.

I've had the flu twice this winter, both times didn't last more than 24 hours, for which I'm grateful. I can't have the flu shot.

Yes, some people cannot get the flu shot ... which makes it even more important that the rest of us get one, so we don't spread it around. Stay well, my friend.

@just4him - Healthy eating can make a tremendous difference. I have heard people refer to food as medicine, and I think there is some truth to that.

@DeborahDiane I'm doing good once again. I've had it twice this winter so far, and both times lasted no more than a couple days and was history. I think it's all the healthy eating I'm doing.

I got my flu shot in October I think it was. One time I did not get it and got the flu. I prefer to get it and I do not get the flu. I get other things instead.

Yes, it is very scary to see how deadly it has been, even for healthy, young adults!
