Dare I promote another of my songs on MyLot? I wrote this one for my idol.

OK, here's the scoop. Mark Twain is my favorite author. We all had to read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn as kids, but Twain also wrote several short stories in which he poked fun at religious hypocrisy (Was it Heaven? Or Hell?), fake news (How I edited an Agricultural Paper), and other things that are still relevant today.
Many people don't know that Twain's favorite daughter, Susy Clemens, died of spinal meningitis when she was 24, leaving Twain in deep sadness for his final years. I researched some of Twain's daughter's writings about him, and Twain's writings about his daughter, and wrote a song.
I couldn't figure out what melody to use, so I turned it into a blues. Twain was a devout abolitionist, and the blues is a straightforward black musical language, so it made sense.
Is it possible to write what amounts to "intellectual blues"? I dunno, but I tried. Let me know what you think.

For some reason, we never perform this one at out gigs in any of the bands I play in. Maybe I haven't "suggested" it enough. We've started doing Sometimes now and again, which I also wrote. Sometimes is actually harder to play that Susy, which is a basic blues.

@TheHorse - That's good that your audience is receptive to original music. Here, not so much.

Thanks! I like writing (and singing) sad songs. The Moth Song is pretty sad too. Have you seen/heard my friend Debbie's version of my song? The's the leader of one of the bands I'm in. She kind of drives me nuts sometimes.

I studied Twain back in my university days. I loved being able to sit at a table and read newspapers that were printed in Twain's day.

cool song. I have tried to read Tom Sawyer, but I never finished it. Maybe someday I will read it.
