"Napalm Girl," Kim Phuc Oont, is alive and well!

Good news here, I heard her voice. She is 54 now, doing good works! Remember that iconic photo in 1972? The one of a naked, terrified little nine year old Vietnamese girl running screaming toward the camera? Her clothing had been burned off by napalm. Her arms, hands and back were badly burned. If you don't recall it, or never saw it, Google Napalm Girl. It was one of those horrendous, anonymous acts of war. It made front pages and magazine covers, seared the memory of those who saw it. She tells the story of defecting to Canada while on her honeymoon too. Her story is worth listening to. It is on PRI, The World.org.

I have read about the girl a little more than one year ago when Facebook had censored the famous photo. The name of the girl is Phan Thi Kim Phuc, she will turn 55 on April 2.

@WorDazza I have the feeling that there is a lot of hypocrisy behind Facebook. They only take action according their very personal opinion. I think it's a dangerous site where it is even to easy to create groups of people that are far to be innocent.

@LadyDuck It definitely seems to encourage people to congregate in virtual social cliques rather than encourage debate!!

@LadyDuck And all of the extremist material that seems to find its way on there. Ordinary people seem to find it quick enough so why can't Facebook's admin people??

I remember and think I saw a interview with her at one point. Horrors of war.

It is always the innocents who suffer the most.

I remember her, and the photo, very well. As you say, once seen it remained etched on your mind. I'd heard of her from time to time. I read the interview. It's good to know she is doing well and helping others.
