Living in the past

What is this fascination that I have with the past? The movies I prefer to watch, the novels I read are usually set in the early centuries - from the 19th up to the 14th. - not surprising that my favorite subject in school was history. Even though I love reading about life in those times, I would never like to wake up one day and find myself actually living in the past. Modern living, the freedom and independence women have gained over the centuries - I would never want to give these up and go back in time. If I am forced to - the furthest back in time I would go would be the 1950s. It must have been cool being a teenager back then - the duke box, rock and roll, bobby socks and twirly skirts. It isn't possible, I know, but if you could go back in the past, would you want to? Which time period would you prefer and what would you really miss from modern living?

I will go back to the 1950s if I could. I was born in 1951 and I loved the 50s, but I was a bit too young to appreciate those years in full.

@Kandae11 My husband enjoyed the 50's more, as he was born the decade before.

I would like to go back to the late 80's and 90's because kids had more freedom and are carefree. It was fun hanging outside and play like there is no tomorrow.

It sure was more fun for kids to be able to play outside all day long, rather than sitting and playing with gadgets.

@marlina yes. Missing those days when kids can just have personal interactions with each other.

@migen1037 I agree with you. There is an epidemic of child obesity because of lack of exercise and too much fast food.

@db20747 Yes, we also called it a jukebox over here. In the sixties, they had the mini ones that fit over a table in a restaurants. I think that we were able to get three songs for a quarter.

Anytime when life was simpler, when violence, school shootings for example were non-existent. I think personally the 60s and 70s were great times.

You can envy me! I was a teenager in the fifties and danced boogie-woogie and rock'n'roll and loved Elvis songs. Two of my classmates saw Elvis getting off the ship in Bremerhaven, Germany, where he did his military service.

I was a teen in the 60's and we were rock and roll, and we had bobby socks but not so much the twirling skirt. I like growing up in the 50's, loved college in the 60's, had my children in the 70's, and moved all over the states and Canada in the 80's. I like this era, I'm old but happy...and i don't move anymore.

@Kandae11 in 50s India was recovering after partition and had to rebuild after colonial rule stretching 200 years. But I hear people then were fuller with enthusiasm than us, even with much less resources.
