Here are some ways you can boost your happiness levels if you start feeling a bit blue. These tips just might help you maintain that happiness throughout the year or at least provide a pick me up when needed.
1. Borrow or get a pet- Many of you enjoy your pets so much they become part of your posts. That alone tells me pets can provide pleasure for their owners. In fact, research shows pet owners have lower blood pressure. Another plus, they can provide comfort and companionship when your feeling lonely.
2. Smell happy smells- I have scented candles in my home. Vanilla is a personal favorite. Research has shown some fragences to alter moods in a positive way.
3. Go shopping! Research has shown looking at something aestetically pleasing, beautiful, and functional made them happy. So maybe an occasional indulgence can't hurt. Hey the Dollar store should not hurt the purse or wallet too much!
4. Join a group- Belonging to a group to which you feel connected through shared values and interests can help you to feel happier. Studies have shown group happiness is contagious. Surround yourself with happy people and you will be happier.
5. Wear happy clothes- Never considered our mood being reflective of what we wear. But maybe choosing clothes we enjoy wearing and makes us feel good when were feeling a bit off can provide a mood boost.
6. Dance- There have been studies done suggesting those who took a dance class after heart surgery were happier than those who ran on a treadmill. It also seemed to reduce stress and anxiety. Shake a leg anyone?
7. Find a Hobby- If My Lotting is your hobby what a great way to relax, lower your stress, and provide one with enjoyment.
So there you have some "go to" self-help ways to escape the blahs. As a wise old person once said, "give it a try, it can't hurt."

If a person's hobby turns out to be his/her profession then that'll be the perfect satisfaction for him/her.

Yes, that would be a perfect combination. I used to do some paid coaching and it was so much fun plus rewarding to help others and to actually be compensated was terrific.

I am with you jujunme. I also enjoy gardening. It is an enjoyable way to pass the time, you accomplish something, it allows you to be creative, and provides a purpose. And best of all, the beautiful garden resulting from your work is quite rewarding!

When I cycle into depression, I find that exercise is very helpful. Overcoming it enough to motivate myself to get out there is difficult, but it helps.

Well, you have a great activity to turn when in need. What better way to relax and de-stress but to take a ride out in nature around a beautiful scenic area like Colorado.

That is very true. Having a responsibility like a pet and receiving the love and companionship from them can make a big difference in one's outlook.
