“Did you ever feel like it is hard to make money?”

Nowadays, young people tend to be abusive in terms of asking money from their parents. As I always described them as mutants in the modern world. I felt bad for their parents who are working so hard to provide their basic needs. However, these young ones just simply don't care. When I was at their age, I had helped my parents to lessen their burden. During my high school days, I tried to make my own money by doing a tutorial to kids. At that time, I realized that it is hard to make money and it wasn’t easy. “Have you ever helped your parents to lessen their expenses?” “Did you have a part-time job while studying?” Image Credit: pixabay.com

Some parents encourage that behavior by making their children little gods. They accede to all the wishes of their children that the children come to see their parents as their grocery store.

I had a data entry work for my professor while studying. I actually stumbled upon the work because then it was 1998 and computers were a rarity in Nigeria. The professor was among the first persons to own a computer. I had learned about computers from my uncle in Lagos who runs a computer parts warehouse. So, when I stumbled upon this professor using his computer to type student's research work, I told him I could work on computers and that was how I got my first job typing and doing data entry for him. That was lots of fun and it taught me that money is not easy to get.

I think you did a great job having an extra cash and associated with the computer. During my college years, I had extra money by doing homework or research of my classmates. They are the lazy students. At some point, they are quite well-off individuals.

I helped my father in his shop in old downtown Manila at age 16. I do not find earning money hard in fact I even consider making any amount fun, the only problem is spending is easier and comes often at times.

I do agree it is easy to spend the money. I had tried a lot of part-time jobs and earn a certain amount of money. At some point, it is for personal expenditures.

@mohit459 I also have the same feeling. During the old school days, we are three in total studying in the university. I think this is the most challenging thing that my parents need to deal with.

I was quite a bit of rebellious during my school days. Yes I did a part-time job by tutoring kids so that I have my own money and I would not need to ask allowance from my parents. But they still give me money, which I save.

I do think that we have rebellious act during the old days. I have some of these acts but I still prioritized my studies. Some of my batchmates were really irresponsible individuals. I feel bad for them.

My part-time job's earnings are also for extra cash for things needed while studying. I am a scholar when I was in high school. My parents don't need to worry about the school's tuition fee at that time. I do agree that money will come along the way smoothly.

To make spending money while I was growing up I would babysit, mow grass just do what ever odd jobs. Also collected cans and such and turned them in. It builds character and appreciation for how much things cost when it is your money.

After completing my grads, I started to earn money to lessen my family's burden. Many a time, i thought I should take a break at least for a few months. But, the needs grow, and I couldn't take any break.

As we step into the real world, things seem quite complicated. Our life started to become busier and busier. I can join you with that sentiment. I still keep going and no breaks as much as possible. However, I need to have a setback and balance things up.

Children are not aware of how much it costs maintaining a family and a home. The dificulties are similar, but with the technologie and all the consumerism the youth nowadays wishs more and more. During my childhood, it was enough to go out with the bicycle. Nowadays, it's the smartphone, iphone, tablet, playstation, wii....and all the accessories.

You have a point. I agree that it also follows with the changes. Some children would not be aware of it. Personally, it can also good to educate the child what's the real importance of having the money.

I worked in my Dad's business to earn money when I was 15 years old. I continued to work summers there when I was off from college. There are some kids who probably do receive money from parents, but I also notice many high school age kids working in various retail jobs.

Earning money, giving it a value and saving it are some important life skills that need to be learnt at young age. My parents lived these values and I got it from them. I value them and spend them judiciously. I never bugged my parents for money. They fulfilled our requirements and that was it.
