Are you close to your immediate family?

I came from a small family and now that my parents are gone it is even smaller. I have two children, my sister and nephew and I keep in touch with them regularly and a few cousins who don't live that near so I really only see them at funerals now.
Some families are very close, they live very near to each other and keep in touch on a daily basis. They look after their relatives when they get old or sick and seem to have a very different set up to mine .
Are you close to your family or have you drifted away from them as you have grown older.

Yes, we do. Two of my siblings live elsewhere but when we see each other, we have the greatest time. And of course, my parents live my place so I can just go in there house and ransack the food anytime (that is if there is food). hehehe

Haha, I used to raid my mum's fridge when she was alive! She didn't mind though as she liked feeding me.

@mlgen1037 My son used to do that. He would bring all his friends in the house and give them food!

@sprite1950 my parents dont mind as long as I do not give others the food in the fridge without their permission. Oh this applies to my mom only. hahaha

Not really, distance separates sadly. However, I really want to get a summer place in the town I grew up. I think that might help.

@sprite1950 Yeah, I wouldn't want to live there permanently, but I would like to spend summers there They are beautiful, and my parents are not getting any younger. I even talked to my son to see if he wanted to split a place up there..because he considers it his second home.

@snowy22315 It would be like a holiday home. I wish I could do that. I think I will go and search property now!

I would love to go back to the town I grew up in but my commitments are where I live now so it will have to wait.

That's nice. I wish I had spent more time with my parents when they were alive.

I keep in touch with so many of my family and I am still finding some I never was in touch with. My dad was the baby of 13 children and all his siblings before him had children. Some only had one or two but others had many. Being dad was the baby, he had siblings that could be his parents. Thanks for the internet I am finding new cousins all the time. Sometimes I see people on Facebook with my maiden name and will write to them to see if we are related.

Wow that's amazing. I found out that I have cousins in Australia and they have even visited me but I have never thought of looking up people with the same name as me.

@ramapo17 That's nice. I had a Japanese penpal when I was around 11/12. They used to encourage it at our school. We lost touch though and I never visited.

@sprite1950 What did we do before the internet. I use to write to my penpal in England and it seemed to take forever to get a reply. I started writing to her when I was 12 and we still stay in touch. I did meet her once at her home in England and she came to mine in Pennsylvania.

I do talk to my mom pretty often. Not so much to my dad. I do get along with my sister, although we don't talk often. I do see my mom's side of the family often enough. Usually a few times a year. Although I'm not super close to them. It's really my mom that I'm closest to, at the moment. I was close to my grandmother (my mom's mom) when she was alive.

I loved my dad's mum when she was alive but I was afraid of my grandad because he was strict,

Yes I really hope my daughter has children although she and her fiance are happy as they are at the moment. I can't blame then as they still have their freedom! I only have the one granddaughter but it would be nice to have at least one more.

@sprite1950 I understand that, I have 12 grandkids, my oldest is just graduating high school and the youngest is turning 3 in a few months. They have been so much fun, I hope your daughter will decide to have babies when she is ready and give you a couple more.

That must be hard. I'm sure you miss them. I don't see my daughter all the time now as she has moved away but she visits when she can and I know she is happy and that's the main thing, We talk on the phone every day.
