Skin type - what is yours?

I have a very pale skin which burns quite easily in the sun and I don't tan very easily. I always envied people who could just walk about in the sun for a few hours and get a lovely bronzed look.
As I have become older I realise how important it is to protect my skin so I use a very light fake tan to give myself a glow (not the Donald Trump type!) but I would love to have a skin that tanned naturally.
Are you light or dark skinned and do you spend time sunning yourself?

In Philippines we called our skin type or color as " kayumanngi" . It is not black and it is not also white..

That's interesting. Does it tan easily?

@Jessabuma I guess there are different shades of kayumanngi. From your picture you look as if you would tan.

I always imagined you as dark. I think it's because of your profile pic. Do you have dark hair?

@ridingbet I have tried many over the years but always go back to Olay. Is it still called Ulay where you are? It used to be called that here but then they changed it to Olay.

I use Olay which has a sun factor in it on my face. Sun creams always irritate it too much.

I am light skinned but I am not the light type that burns easily other than my face. I will tan if I am in the sun for any length of time. However, I don't sunbathe since that is very bad for the skin. I have never understood the way people go crazy with tans like those that become orange and think they look good. To each his own I guess.

@morgoodie Fancy taking a 5 year old in with her! I look healthier in the summer even though I don't tan well. I usually have a glow but it fades quite quickly once the sun disappears.

Yes the Trump look! I used to sunbathe when I was young in an effort to get a tan but I know it couldn't have done it any good.

@sprite1950 A few years ago, a woman was on the news because she supposedly had her 5 yr old in the tanning booth with her and they were claiming that she was having her use the tanning bed. This woman was addicted to tanning. She was white but tanned so much that she turned herself black. It was horrible looking.

I would say my skin is medium, not too light and not too dark. I try not to stay deliberately in the sun for not more than 30 minutes. I used to lie in the sun but now am more concerned. I do not use sun tan protection as I think they do more harm than good.

I don't think that everything needs to be the sun, at least not in public areas. That's why we have shade!

@sprite1950 That's exactly what happens unless he is very, very careful about how much sun he gets.

This is the funny part, I have pale skin, yet I tan easily. Whenever I went to Singapore or Hongkong (or similar places with that sort of weather), I would be dark tan. Then out of those countries, a week or two later, I will be fair again, funny right? (I come from Count Dracula's family!

I am brown-skinned or "morena" as well call here in our country. That is the reason I do not wish to be fair skinned or to be "too" white because I can soak under the sun.

You sure have a nice skin tone there. I come from a mixed parentage so I'm kind of tanned. I think any color that a person was born in, they are just amazing just the way they are.

I don't tan easily, but I don't burn easily either. I am fair skinned although my skin has darkened a bit since I am living a bit near the equator than where I grew up, and am exposed to more sun.

I got a small red patch on my arm which the doctor told me was a keratosis. It's not cancerous but if exposed to the sun it could become that way. I got some cream to get rid of it but I know I will have to be more careful this year.

I'm a light-skinned black. I made a mistake once. I thought black people could stay in the sun all day. I went to the beach with friends. I got sunburn; not a suntan. Not only that but I became extremely upset when my skin started peeling days later. Then I found out that people could get skin cancer if they stayed in the sun too long! I'm like … Forget this! I have avoided the sun ever since. That was not easy to do since I grew up in Miami, Florida. Land of sun and fun.

You know I always imagined you with pale skin and red hair! I bet it's because of your profile pic on FC with the red fox
. Now I shall have to change my mental image of you .. it's going to be hard after all this time
.
Yes sunburn is extremely unpleasant, I have to be really careful with my skin type.

Being half-Italian I am more on the darker skin side. I will still burn easily so I make sure I have my sunscreen when outside for long periods of time. I do develop a nice tan as the summer progresses.

Some people think that a tan makes us look healthy but too much sun is quite bad for the skin.
