2013 was a good year for me

Desert Bird of Paradise I took this shot in 2013

In 2013 I got some really good shots of pets, plants and scenes. This shot was taken in May of 2013 when my Desert Bird of Paradise was showing off with hundreds of blooms. It seemed to bloom that whole summer. Do you have some kind of bird of paradise where you are?

Not me. You have the perfect climate for that beauty, lucky you.

These bushes don't always do that well plus I've found I don't have mom's green thumb, dadblasted.

@rebelann You probably do better than me. I'm the one who can't get zucchini to grow! I sure can attract ugly bugs that munch their leaves and kill them but the actual zucchini? Not so much.

Nope, it never had a chance @sallypup a lot of what you can grow up there won't grow here because there is so little humidity and it gets hot really early. We're already in the 80s here in the afternoons and in the upper 50s at night. We should be in the 90s by next week or maybe the week after.

That is so pretty. We don't have one in our garden but my sister has what I'd call the common sort.

I hope you can get a photo of hers, there is a tropical Bird of Paradise but it looks completely different from this one. I imagine you might have similar plants there to what we have here in our desert.

Beautiful shot. Yes, you are right @JudyEv Those grow in the southern parts of Mexico or in places like southern Florida but I've never seen one here, our climate tends to be too dry for them

Bird of Paradise
@rebelann I have the photo now but I think it is the tropical Bird of Paradise as it doesn't look anything like yours.

It's the first time that I heard that kind of flower. Just now I searched on the internet, they're really beautiful.

Yes they are. They do well here because we do not have severe winters.

You can buy these as flowers? I've never seen them offered here.

Wow, I am so surprised @DianneN I knew the tropical bird of paradise was offered by florists but I had no idea the desert version would be as well.

@rebelann Yes, the florists sell them in better shops. I've always loved them.
