Do you like salt on your french fries?

Not because it really matters. After all, this isn't anything that is going to solve the miseries of the world, or end hunger, or stop war, or anything important. But it is a nice simple topic that even vegetarians can reply to. I like a little bit of salt on my french fries, but just a dash...more to enhance the flavor than to taste salt. I don't like dipping my french fries in salt water, because although it has salt, it makes them soggy, and I don't like soggy fries. But I don't salt any other types of potatoes...just french fries. Edit - I guess eating french fries can end hunger...for the person eating them.

Yes I enjoy salt on my fries. No ketchup though. Ketchup is nasty stuff.

I like to dip my fries into a bit of ketchup. I do not like salt and don't like seasoned fries either.

I'm with you... just a little salt will do. The way McDonald's pours on the salt should be against the law.

I like them with a pinch of salt and mayo to add some fat. I have not eaten french fries since a year, so I cannot tell I am fond of french fries, I am ready to give mines to a charity if it helps to solve hunger in the world.

A pinch of salt and a splash of vinegar...mmm yum. This must be a Canadian thing...when I ask for vinegar in the US they often look at me with a questioning look. Ketchup...I can take it or leave. Now I'm hungry.

Judging by what one gets in places like McDonalds here, our chips are thicker and less crisp than french fries. The traditional way to eat them is in the street, straightt out of the paper with a liberal application of salt and vinegar (generally offered in the chippy (chip shop) when you buy them. If you are taking them home to eat, you answer "Wrapped" when they ask "Open or wrapped?" and generally refuse salt and vinegar (which one may or may not apply at home). The best chips are those fried in beef dripping rather than oil but it's difficult to find a chippy that does them like this. One either eats chips on their own or buys them as a 'side' with a piece of battered and fried cod, haddock or plaice (other kinds of fish like hake, rock salmon - actually a small shark called dogfish - and whiting are much less common these days than they used to be). There are also pies (steak and kidney or chicken), jumbo sausages (battered and fried), saveloys (generally boiled) and a number of other things one can have with one's chips like curry sauce or mushy peas. A marvellous institution, the British Chip Shop!

I think your 'chips' may be what are considered 'steak fries' here. I don't like the really thin crispy fries many places here serve.

In Hull we put chip spice on our French fries (it's called American Chip Spice but I don't know if it's actually American) and salt and vinegar on our fish and chips - the chips you get with fish and chips are of course an entirely different ball game when compared to the French fry

I use a salt substitute. It gives the flavor of salt but has no sodium. There is so much salt in processed food that I don't need to add it.
