Does this bus go to the city?

I’ve just Lori’s (@LoriAMoore) discussion, Funny Signs Not A Bus and it reminded me of when Vince and a friend drove the bus home from Melbourne to Donnybrook, a distance of about 35,000 kms (21,747 miles). After emails and phone calls, Vince had decided it was odds on (highly likely) that he would buy the bus so he and a mate flew to Melbourne with the idea of driving it home across the Nullarbor. They hired a car at the airport then drove about an hour to inspect the bus. They then had to return the hire car to the airport. Vince had to park the bus and wait for his friend to do the paperwork for returning the car so being Vince, he parked it smack bang in the centre of the pick up/drop off area in a bus zone. While he was there a woman put her foot on the step and asked was the bus going into the city. When Vince said he was going to Western Australia, she said ‘That will do me’ and laughed. But she didn’t go with them. The photo is of the bus, Vince and a friendly dog at Kimba in South Australia on their way home. You can read about the galah here:
Some years ago we bought our Leyland Tiger bus over the internet. Unfortunately it was 3,500 kilometres away and south of Melbourne in the Australian state of...

That is a giant model of the bird. Are all the Galahs grey and pink or are there white winged ones?

There are a number of different species of galah/cockatoo species including white ones. This is a sulphur-crested cockatoo but it's not the best photo.

@silvermist Perhaps they don't have them in India. Here is a pink cockatoo. Although he is 'pink' it's a different colouration from the pink and grey. Photo courtesy Aviceda (Wikimedia)

@LadyDuck You could well be right. We bring the bad luck onto ourselves by worrying about it so much.

You're welcome. If I'd been with him, I'd have been so worried about someone telling us we couldn't park there. But luckily it was all okay.

I love the picture. The bus parked right by the bird is great and would spark a lot of conversation. Had to look at it again to see the dog. It's funny the woman thought the bus was going to the city. That's quite a trip home. How long ago was that?

@just4him It broke down on the way over the east. It wasn't something that could have been picked or had been hidden. But then they had to get a part for England so that took quite a few months. It was in Kalgoorlie at the time so 700 kms away. We did it all ourselves and we were pretty slow. There was a lot of 'thinking' time for Vince - how to do the electrics, water supply, fridge, toilet, etc. We can plug into power or run off batteries. The fridge is three-way power, battery or gas. So it did take a long time.

It would have been August 2010 and it took us to 2013 to convert it.

I recall the other post about this giant bird statue. I'd love a pretty bird like that it's my favorite color. Now I see where the bus you guys posted about more recently came from.

The galahs are quite a popular pet and they are usually good talkers.

I've forgotten now but they broke down on the Nullarbor and had to get it carried into Kalgoorlie. Then we had to get parts from England before it could be driven the rest of the way.

Yes, that is the bus. We converted it when we got it home. In the photo it is full of seats but we took them all out and made a motor-home out of it.

@judyev I’d have been tempted to say “yes I’m going to the city” but not say which city and let her on. I was stopped outside a club in Belfast a few years ago waiting for my daughter when two tipsy women came out, climbed into my back seat and told me the address they wanted to go to, thinking I was their taxi. I just sat on while they chatted till they asked why I wasn’t moving. They were most annoyed and berated me robustly for their own silliness.

There are several Australian towns which have giant statues. One near our home town has a statue of a ram. Wool production is important in the area. When I find the photo I'll add it here.
