Have you ever considered being a storm chaser?

This is a free image from Pixabay but it is very like what we have been seeing this evening. They predicted it for yesterday, then last night, then today, and it finally arrived tonight. We saw vehicles from various news and weather stations and we saw people pulled off on country roads taking pictures. Considering last year at least one storm chaser was killed, you would not be able to interest me in the job or hobby.

We don't get those kinds of storms here, but I've always been fascinated by them. And when I heard about storm chasers (documentaries and movies), oh you bet I've wanted to be one of them! But it can be quite dangerous - at this point in my life, I wouldn't want to risk it.

I have known a few. They are adrenaline junkies. I think secretly my daughter-in-law would like to do it.

@GardenGerty I wonder if there are any "tours" one can take - just to get a taste of it (safely, that is). I might go for that!

@much2say Hey, that would be a home business for me. On the other hand, a tour would be more in control if it was a simulated storm.

NO!! I was watching tornado coverage from Wichita Falls while waiting for the doors to open. A lady in line asked if I wanted to be a storm chaser. I said I only chase the TV coverage.

I've watched storm chasers on television, it's frightening when they put their life in danger, to do this!

Yes it is. People tell jokes like "you know you are from Kansas if you stand in the middle of the street to watch the tornadoes.

@kobesbuddy I grew up very near an Airforce Base. Parts of the community under the flight pattern. When there were crashes the rubber neckers would fill the street to the point that emergency help could not get through.

@GardenGerty Why would anyone want to stand in the street, to watch tornadoes? To lay our life on the line, to get a better look at the destruction? They must be awfully stupid!

I would not be there by choice. I have never experienced a hurricane but hubby has. Then of course, there are the earthquakess.

I wouldn't want to deliberately get myself caught in a Tornado, thunderstorm, hurricane or blizzard. No thanks.

I don't know how many times the tornado sirens went off tonight. It's that awful tornado time.

It went off in our old town, but not here. We often have big straight line winds.

I think it would be exciting. I might go out once..but I would not push my luck by doing it repeatedly!

I have had them close more than once. My mom was without power and water for over two weeks as a result of one when I was older. That is close enough for me.

@GardenGerty Oh that is bad...We have lost power for no more than 3 days as a result of hurricanes and or ice storms. Being without for two weeks would be very disturbing!

They risked their lives to take a photo of the storm.Their jobs seem to entail lots of hard work and a huge risk.

Some storm chasers accumulate weather data, or they "seed the clouds" etc. trying to control the storm. To me it seem too risky, though.

No, I would never be a storm chaser, that would be such a scary job as storms are so deadly. My brother was struck by lightening and it caused much damage to him. Why would someone put themselves in that danger on purpose.

There are certain personalities that seem to need to do this, or ride scary dangerous rides, but not me. Too many things can go wrong.
