It is in our best interests if you die as quickly as you can...

I have to wonder about insurance providers for low-income people/families. My income is low enough that I used to have a state-issued medical card to pay for most of my health care needs, but this year Illinois stopped doing it and instead is offering healthcare (still at reduced to no cost) for low income families through a few different healthcare providers. Mine is Molina Healthcare. Whom I am currently embroiled in an argument with. My Dr tried to prescribe Chantix for me to help me stop smoking. Molina refused to pay for it...they said I need to try using the nicotine patch, nicotine gum, or the drug Zyban. Okay. I've tried to stop smoking a few times using nicotine patches...they don't work. Gum is not an option, since I don't have any teeth to chew it with. And I found out yesterday my Dr. will not prescribe Zyban because of diabetes, high blood pressure, and a previous addiction to drugs. Which leaves me at smoking. The letter I got from Molina says "Your Doctor may call (telephone number) to talk to a pharmacist about this decision (Chantix)". The Dr. indicated that she had already tried to prescribe it and I was denied. She has ALSO received a copy of the letter I did stating she can call them to talk about their decision...but she doesn't seem to want to. I pressed the point to her...in a firm manner...that she is obligated to call them if she will not prescribe the medication that they said they would pay for, why she won't prescribe it, and to try to get them to change their mind about the prescription for Chantix. Her response to me left me with no doubt that she won't call. So basically, I am getting "You need to stop smoking (even the letter states that Molina recognizes I do indeed have a smoking problem) but tough luck getting help from us". Maybe they figure if I die from smoking, they won't have to pay any medical benefits anymore, since they don't make money from me doing it. Welcome to Healthcare in America.

If you can't chew gum due to a lack of teeth, how do you manage to eat your food, dear boy? And if you can't chew gum, you can always suck on it.

Very small bites. I basically tear my food into very small bites.

This sounds worse than I thought. I fear you have to continue to smoke because it is better than taking Zyban. At least smoking is something you like. I know that many governments are not too sorry if you die if are already getting pension every month.

That is bull, First if all other options are feasible.. you should be able to tell them so.. Or in this case your Doctor.. and 2) she shouldn't be refusing! I would maybe think about another doctor

How do I put this? Healthcare in America just sucks; especially if its given to you because of disability or income (i.e. Medicaid). Here in Texas, they give the elderly and the disabled this bullcrap called Texas STAR Plus, and its the worse insurance I have ever had medical wise. They are actually okay with prescriptions which is shocking, but finding a doctor that takes it is a freaking nightmare. Plus sometimes last year I forgot when it was but I had blood work done and thought my insurance would cover it but I got a letter from Labcorp like 2 weeks later saying that my insurance denied the claim because "I have another insurance that covers bloodwork", uh I haven't had a second insurance wince I was 26 and I was covered under my parents' insurance. Now I have to follow up with two specialists and all the stuff online seems to be outdated and I can't find anyone close to me. I can't stand these money hungry b******!

@JolietJake Yeah some is better than none but in America its almost like you have none when you are on medicaid.

Of course, I am only 'approved' to see certain doctors...trying to get that changed is a nightmare in itself. I guess some healthcare is better than no healthcare, but some days I just want to scream at these morons

Good luck with this. From all I read here I think our health system is at least a little more fair and sensible.

That's rough what you're going through. I found this site, but I haven't checked it, so do check it first. It said free, so thought it could help you. Good luck. Swanson Vitamins with an order gave me a Rx discount card, maybe a quick research online can find free Rx discount cards too.
Many people use smoking cessation prescriptions to help reduce withdrawal feelings and cigarette cravings. SCBN and Pfizer can help you quit for good

I hate that it's become all about the money. The priority isn't about helping people to get better first . . . it's seems to be about getting money into the right places - meaning in someone's pocket (not our's!) - meanwhile folks are suffering for it. Makes you wonder why your doctor doesn't even try to fight for you. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to who tell me about the cheaper and better healthcare system in their countries . . . all that live here now say it's way expensive and they are afraid to get sick because of the expenses.

Want to know the difference between your healthcare and mine? I get a "thank you for your service" after they shuck and jive me.

Insurance has too much say in our healthcare anymore. Hospitals are also required to get you in and out as fast as possible. I know they ran unnecessary tests on my parents at times because the doctor wanted them under observation longer. That was the only way he could keep them there
