That could have been disastrous

One of the reasons I have been anxious to be at home is so that I can work on my yard. Today I have mowed some, and worked on trimming up some things, including some dead small branches on a bunch of trees. I was using a hand lopper. Suddenly, as I cut, a branch leaped up and hit me, in the face. It did not hurt, but it sent my glasses flying. Without my glasses, I cannot see a thing. However, I heard the general area where they fell. On the soft ground, among dead leaves. Hubby was able, with a few moments of searching, to find and restore my glasses to me. I was getting ready to go find my spares, left over from my last glasses disaster.

You're lucky that you have spares! I still need to go in and get my prescription filled for readers and distance glasses The fire took care of the spare pair of readers which I wear almost constantly. I can see fairly well with my distance glasses but reading is out with them, so I would need Bill to read everything to me. I keep forgetting to buy the new ones, especially since reading through the old glasses is like reading through a fog bank! I usually wear my distance glasses when I do yard work and have the readers in my pocket in case there is something I need to read. Otherwise I keep the cheap distance glasses on my nose and the readers safe just in case I need to find the distance glasses like you had to find yours.

Late winter or early spring I had a wild day. My glasses broke. They were too old to find frames for. Later Wal Mart did find frames, but I also had an appointment with my optometrist and ordered a new set. I had been paying for insurance that helped with the cost. The frames Wal Mart found were loose, but my optometrist office did a process that tightened them. I had gotten rid of all my spares and had not had mine replaced for five years.

Atleast it wasn't a briar bush. I have knocked my glasses off of my face so many times I've stopped counting. I have astigmatism, but otherwise can see without them.

When I was younger, I could see alright without them. I do have a vining plant in that area called a green briar, it so happens. so it is funny you mention it. I have knocked them off before, but I do not usually lose them in a camouflaged area this way.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I heard the direction they went and made sure NOT to go that way. I fully expected to break them myself.

@GardenGerty Atleast your husband was there to help you find them. I know, with my own luck, I'd end up stepping on them myself.

I was raking around a tree today and pulled up a little itty bitty root, and just pulled it off, and a (very small) twig hit me on the shoulder. I tell ya, trees are fighting back!

IT'S good that your hubby was able to locate them for you..., otherwise it's too easy to damage them further by standing on them because you can't see what you're looking for...

I was sure I would step on them if I was not careful.

Glad hubby helped you find them. But also glad you kept your spares in case you ever need them.

After what I went through in February without spares I will certainly be sure to keep them.

That's a helpless feeling. You and my dad's wife would have a lot in common. She is a yard and plant aficionado. You and she can also identify any bird they see.

Usually if I cannot identify something I at least know how to search for it.

Good thing hubby was able to find these for you quickly. No one who needs glasses would want to be w/o them for long.

Yes, and he has "eagle eyes" and can often find things like four leafed clovers.

Thank God your hubby was there to help plus thank God you didn't get whacked hard. Property work is dangerous and I for one don't take the precautions that I should.

There is so much to do here, and I enjoy it. I should probably wear the spares for this type of work.

I always hate reading stories from years ago, usually war stories, where someone loses or breaks their glasses and there is no way of replacing them. It must be a dreadful moment. I'm glad you found yours.

I hate when that happens, I need glasses to see way off so up close I am good and I leave them inside, except when I am at the old home place, I wear them then.

If I am really smart I will start wearing my old ones.

Thankfully, the glass shards didn't injure your eyes when your spectacles (Aussie for eye glasses) got hit. Are you alright? The impact on your face, are you okay?

I am okay, the impact was minor. The lenses did not break. In fact, I have never broken lenses, just frames.
