Ever hear that old song about this? Even Bing Crosby recorded this one. Now Macedonia will be called something else, the Republic of North Macedonia. That is, if the Macedonian voters and the Greek parliament agree. Apparently the Greeks have blocked Macedonia's entry into the EU and NATO over this name disagreement, so now the new name may be eligible. The new Republic was part of Yugoslavia, was never a part of the Greek area of Macedonia. Greeks were upset over the assumed name of Macedonia because that is what the northern area of Greece is known as. Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki is located there. I'm glad they settled that! It was confusing! Four Lads doing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wcze7EGorOk

What fascinates me about Turkey is those whirling dervishes...really fascinating.

I didn't know about the two Macedonias. It would certainly be confusing.

I have read the news early this morning. Istanbul in the past was also called Byzantium, this in 667 BC when it was founded by d by Greek colonists from Megara. As you see it was part of Greece in the past.

@JamesHxstatic Those were very ancient cities. All that area was once part of Greece, even some southern parts of Italy, especially in Sicily, where you can still see "Greek Temples".

I remember it was called Constantinople in a Dr. Seuss book. I think it has been Istanbul for quite a while though.

Yeah...there was Byzantium then Constantinople, and now Istanbul. Like that Macedonia. But why hanker for that name. Weird.

Hi James. Macedonia is a part of Greece?

The northern part of Greece has always been known that way. Alexander the Great was from that area.
