Life Changing Events

We all have them, starting with the day you're born. After that it's sitting up, crawling, walking, talking. From there we graduate to first day of school, graduation, first job, retirement. Life flies by so fast it doesn't seem you're in a place for very long before you're moving on to the next milestone in your life.
The greatest milestone and best life-changing event in my life happened on April 22, 1980 when I gave my life to Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. That will always be the best. However, life doesn't stand still, we move on.
Today is another life-changing event in my life. Today, I am a card carrying member of the senior citizen crowd. Today Medicare starts for me. Of course that means my birthday is this month.
All my paperwork was done a couple months ago. I have my Medicare card, but not the new one yet. I was informed shortly after I received my Medicare card, that the whole system was changing from having the SS # on it, to a series of numbers and letters. So, I wait. I thought they were going out in June. I haven't checked the mailbox for yesterday yet, so it might be there.
Have you reached this milestone in your life? How long do you have to wait yet? How long have you been a card carrying member of the senior citizen crowd?
It's funny, I don't feel old. However, I am glad I'm retired.
Thanks for reading.

It's good when you have a job you love and you can wait until you retire.

I was given some cards in my country a long time before I discovered that I was old. But then I was diagnosed with a lymphoma and chemotherapy started. THAT made me old in a few months.

I'm sorry you have those diseases. I'm sure it would make a person feel old in a hurry.

I am almost 69 and I took early retirement and spent all my money as I waited to get my pension at 65. While I always liked working, I also like retirement. If only I could retire this body for a new and improved one. That day will also come!

@just4him While life can be good, there's a lot of sad things that happen. One day it'll all be different!

I was forced into early retirement. I wanted to retire as soon as I started working. I always worked, and worked hard until forced out of the work world when I got fired from my last job after being there for 11 years.
Yes, the new and improved model will happen one day.

I have 9 years to go to my official pension age though the government is trying to make people work way beyond 65 now too

He will probably get his card in September. I had mine two months ago. It gives the effective date on it.

Is the senior world all you expected it to be when you were little surrounded by your grandparents and elders in our current age bracket?
I remember thinking it would be great to be retired. No worries, no problems of any kind. My thinking has vastly changed as I drew close to this age.

I would rather still be in the work force than being close to senior card carrier. Better more time than little time left.
