Ping Pong crazy

Thinking of expanding my ping pong horizons beyond our one table club house where eight to twelve men and women play three days a week, I went on Saturday morning to this city run sports center in a neighboring town.
There were twelve tables set up at 9:30 and more and more men and a few women showed up. I think there were about forty people there by the time I left and it seemed that all were pretty darn good players. I did okay.
On Monday, I decided to go back and got play more that time, about an hour and a half straight, then played again in the afternoon at the clubhouse.
On Tuesdays, Blazing Paddles play at another city run facility at 8 AM, not as large, with room for only five tables. Soon they were all full with people waiting to play. After three games, players sit out a bit if people are waiting.
I had no idea that ping pong was such a huge sport in this area or that so many retired people loved to play. The Blazing Paddles group is very competitive, but generally a very friendly bunch in welcoming a newcomer.
I may go back on Thursday since it great competitive fun and great exercise too. The dues are quite cheap.
Do you play any competitive games?

I liked to play golf. We practice the green on the lawn of our garden, at least it is free.

Golf is expensive here too and I agree with what Churchill said, it is "a good walk spoiled."

Now that is a strange game to watch. I have seen it portrayed in movies.

Just don't sit around the campfire after playing the game and having a snack.

We had a ping pong table in our basement where I grew up. I have not played it in ages and not sure I would remember how to play again.
