Do you hide food in your house?

chocolate candy bars

When I was a kid, I made a shocking discovery. I was about 10 years old, and I was in my mother's bedroom looking for something. Can't remember what I was looking for. But I was checking everywhere. On her dresser. Underneath the bed. I went to her chest of drawers and pulled out one of the drawers. Started moving stuff around and what do you think I found? My mom had a stash of Mr. Goodbar candy bars in her drawer. I'm not talking bite-size bars that you get in a Halloween bag. I was shocked! I couldn't believe it! My dear sweet mother had been holding out on me! I immediately confronted her about it and all she had to say in her defense was “Oops! I forgot to tell you not to look in my bureau drawers for anything!” It was one of those real life Family Circus moments. Fast forward decades later and I started having my own kids. Borrowed that trick from my mom and started hiding my stashes of favorite food stuffs. You have to! Cause your kids will eat everything in sight! * Do you hide food in your house? Do you have a stash? * My mom would hide her candy. * I have friends who hide Pepsi Cola sodas. * If I could figure out a way to hide the ice cream, I would. I just can't figure out a way to camouflage it.

I have to hide the cookies from my sister's dog since she loves cookies to eat.

Oh my! I have also heard that could be dangerous if the dog ate cookies or cakes or sweet stuff like that.

@cmoneyspinner That is true since cookies are harmful for a dog to eat.

Once, and only once, I hide a bag of Pal-0-Mine Halloween sized bars as they were EXTREMELY hard to get and I wanted to keep them for myself.

My mother had a place where she kept everything under lock and key. She would collect all of us in the hall and dole out whatever goodies that she had kept in her treasure chest. May be she ate some when we were not looking

Believe it or not, my friend's mom put a lock on their refrigerator. It was like that Mel Gibson movie "Conspiracy Theory". But without the conspiracy. The idea of a lock and key on a refrigerator was even more outrageous when I consider that my friend was an only child. I came from a family of 7 boys and 2 girls and my parents never saw the need to put a lock on the refrigerator.

@cmoneyspinner Very mean of your friend to do that When grand children came on the scene there was one grandson she was fond of He would quietly stretch both his hands held at the back and mother thought no one saw it as she would put stuff in both his hands. This guy now is in the US and is a computer wizard having 3 kids of his own but those kids do not have to do that.

@allknowing - Yeah. I thought the lock and key was a bit too extreme.

@LadyDuck - Even if it were just me and my hubby, there are some things I do need to hide from him. Don't want to tempt him. He needs to stick to his diet. When there are certain things I want I just go out to eat that particular food. I'm afraid if he hide he'll still find the stuff.

@cmoneyspinner My husband does not need to stick on any diet and he never gets snacks, he only eats when we sit for our main meals.

No I don't. I should hide the cheese somewhere in the fridge though other than the deli drawer. Every time I need cheddar slices for burgers or queso fresco for scrambled eggs. . . POOF! it is gone! My husband is a cheese monster. We don't even have kids for him to blame it on. He will make a wrap or a sandwich on the rare occasions that we have bread in the house with. . . SHREDDED CHEESE!

You just reminded me of my weakness. I too am a cheese monster. But I prefer the blocks of cheese. Not shredded cheese. My kids mostly buy shredded cheese. If somebody buys the block of cheese, they better hide it from me.

@NJChicaa - I don't have to fight hubby over cheese. My husband is lactose intolerant. In fact, he was the first person I ever met with that problem. He passed it down to some of our kids through the genes. One of my sons will take one of those tablets (Lactaid, or something) before he eats any product with milk.

You will find such chocolates and candies in my cupboard. I hide it from my daughters when some guests bring it. I give it to them in a controlled way. If they get hold of it, they finish it too fast overeating it.

I don't hide the food. Actually I like to share snacks with my child. We like to watch the documentary or movie together and meanwhile enjoy the snacks. It is our happy moment. My son is very funny as he seldom will take the snacks by himself. Perhaps he thinks it is better to share

Just in case guests drop by, you might want to have a backup plan.

I hide the ice cream in my pants pocket, and that made my brother curious.

Now there is just the two of us there isn't any need to hide food of any sort. My boys were so fussy I didn't hide stuff from them either.
