The perfect diet in four words: EAT LESS, MOVE MORE

Eat less, move more. Why, oh why is that so hard to do!
I know as we age, our metabolism slows down and if we don't make an effort to keep it high, the result is weight gain.
Have you at times eaten so much that the very thought of ever eating again makes you feel sick? But of course, a few hours later we're starving again.
(I try not to over eat like that very often, but gluttony happens. Especially when it's fried squash and chicken croquettes like I cooked for dinner today.)
My husband and I recently joined a gym (again) and I sure hope we will keep at it.
I do know that exercise helps my arthritis and I feel better when I don't get lazy about it.
I really, really miss CURVES FOR WOMEN. I was a member for a long time until they closed. I was actually a fitness tech there for six years and loved it. I really don't enjoy going to a gym.
But. If I could just believe those four magic words and make them happen every day, I know I would feel and look much better.
How do you stay in shape?

I had a fitbit at one time but it broke. I used to inspire myself to stay in shape by getting up and walking around the neighborhood every morning. Now I don't do that anymore.
I try to eat healthier options, and less portions as well.
An exercise bike wouldn't work for me, and like you, neither would be a gym membership.

I really hope I can stay motivated this time. Smaller portions are a good idea.

@1creekgirl I used to have these plates that were sectioned off for portions. Actually, they belonged to my mom but I believe they either went to a cousin or went to a donate pile.
Those would be perfect though, kind of wish I had them now.

I limit my carbs and dairy and I hit the gym at least 3 times a week. My gym workouts are really intense. I lift heavy. I love my gym. I just wish it was closer. Takes me 20-30 minutes to get there each way depending on traffic.
My biceps are very sore today from yesterday's workout. Who knows what they will do to me tomorrow?

@NJChicaa Our gym is small and not busy, but I like it as far as gyms go.

@1creekgirl It isn't determination so much as the fact that I found a gym that "works" for me. Planet Fitness just didn't. Rows of treadmills and ellipticals and all of those machines were boring as hell to me. I like group workouts and the challenge of a new workout to try each day. There are all sorts of "challenges" and "body transformations" going on these days. That is the new popular thing in fitness lately. You might want to look into that if you want something that will keep you motivated to keep going to the gym. That's what got me going initially and I lost 44 pounds in 3 months. It was awesome!

We go to exercise at the YMCA in the pool 3 days a week and one or two days at the senior center. We find that these are social as well as good for our health. It is a win-win!!

@1creekgirl oh boy, very true especially when you are getting older. You are increasing both numbers, the age and the weight.

I lose my motivation and fall off the exercise wagon. I do eat healthy most of the time but I really need to move more
