Religious Pamphlets And Leaflets

Often when I am out shopping, street evangelists hand me leaflets, flyers and pamphlets promoting their ministry and trying to convince me that I should convert to their faith. Many simply put such flyers in the bin or even litter the streets with them. I usually take them to be polite and as it is one less that might actually have an impact on a more sensitive, vulnerable mind. I generally read the flyers before consigning them to the recycler too. Most are incredibly bland and formulaic. They offer little more than random Biblical quotations (sometimes just with the chapter and verse number), tell me the end of the World and death are inevitable and imminent and tell me i'm a sinner. Some don't actually recommend any particular church for me, but just indicate that finding God will do. The last Christian leaflet I was handed in Preston in the UK was produced in Canada. The people handing these out don't care which church IU go to as long as I find one. They will be disappointed. Another leaflet I was given this weekend was given to me by a Muslim group, but as I read it I realized it served a different purpose than trying to convert anyone and everyone. It uses various quotations by and about Muhammad to try to educate the reader on some aspects of Islam that can seem controversial. It talks of the religion as one of peace rather than aggression, asserts that Muslim women are treated more fairly than many critics suppose and quotes various Westerners including George Bernard Shaw and Thomas Carlyle showing respect for the faith. This leaflet is not geared up to conversion, but to heading off Islamophobia and while the treatment of many Islamic women is deplorable, it is by mo means universal, and it is good that the faith of Islam is showing the World a better side of itself in this way. At least these evangelists aren't out shooting people or running their cars into crowds of people.

Oh well I think there's no need to spread the word through pamphlets to lure members to them. I think if you are really and your church is good no need to do that anymore. I am glad that the muslim group there doing the same thing as other churches do is not promoting violence. I think they were the original groups of muslims that advocates peace not violence to spread their faith. I think they have two school of thoughts the one that promotes peace to spread and other opposite.

We have nobody distributing religious pamphlets and leaflets, the few times someone handed me one, I took it, just not to start a discussion.

We don't have many religious leaflets handed out here but I always take them to be polite too. It seems to me that, like the Bible, the Koran is subject to interpretation by various holy leaders and this leads to much of the trouble. My niece married a Muslim. She is very happy and her husband is a very lovely man.

I don't take religious leaflets. I say that I'm not interested. I see no reason whatsoever to be polite and fake interest. I'm not responsible for the happiness of missionaries I haven't invited.

The Jehovah's Witnesses do come by here and try to give their "magazine." I do throw away the "magazine." One church did come by and gave me a leaflet once, but I go to another church. That's interesting about the Muslim one.

I think it is against the constitution to force someone to change into another religion. These kind of people need to stop. It is just that they are desperate and take the extreme steps always as preached by their religion. But many of muslim people, you will find good people too with good heart.
