There Is a Lot of Talk About Bears in Our Community Newspaper This Week...

That is one reason I really want out of here. Just the thought of bears wandering the property makes me really nervous and I was just reading an article this morning over breakfast that THIS is the time when they start piling on the calories so that they can go into hibernation. They can eat anywhere from 8000 calories a day to 20,000! And they are spending a lot of time searching for more food. Apparently they love wild plums and our property is lined with the trees. The plums are pretty small which leads me to think that they have to eat a ton of them to get anywhere near that many calories. Sad to say that an elderly man was picking some on his property last week and lets just say that the bear won. :(
Just a few more days before we head back to living in a town again. If you had the opportunity to choose... where would you want to live? I really thought that I would love living in the country with all the privacy that it entails, but not so much anymore. But that is just me! We are seeing a lot of moving trucks on the highways heading to rural areas... and someone just did buy our property!

We can only see wild animals in the zoo. If I were you, I would leave that area.

LOL... I would think that I would feel toward your kangaroos the way we feel about our deer. We never tire of watching them!!

@Hate2Iron That's how we feel. We're not trying to grow anything here so we don't consider them a pest.

There was a story of a killer bear in the Pyrénées last Saturday, his last victim had been a horse. He came in France from the Spanish side. Bears are protected on both sides, and they were trying to send him back to his native country.
I prefer to live in a city. Even if it means less privacy, it also means more services around (supermarkets like hospitals), and there are no wild animals (I caught a wood mouse in my home, I still wonder from where it came), although humans may be a bit wild when they are leaving the bars and singing in my street at 2 am

LOL... a wood mouse... they can be noisy little beggars! And we have wondered just how noisy our next door neighbours might be! I too really miss not having all the services less than 15 minutes away! Going to really enjoy having them close by again!

Everyone else seems to think that it's nothing to worry about, but when you hear that they have been spotted on YOUR ROAD, that is close enough for me, even if they are a ten minute walk from our driveway.

@Hate2Iron I know what you mean, we do not have bears, but big wild boars. They are dangerous and aggressive.

I wouldn't want to worry about bears either. Just the thought of one in my yard scares me

@Hate2Iron I know. I have seen bears while walking. They have always just gone away. Tragic about that man picking fruit, so one just never knows.
