Dutch Oven Cooking and S'Mores Over A Campfire

My beginning and end photos of tonight's dinner.

The photo is of our Dutch Oven when I first put it on the coals and then when the Chicken Pot Pie was finished. It came out delicious. My missus is mastering the art of Dutch Oven cooking. Son2 and his GF were with us for lunch and dinner today. They left to go back to the big city right after we had our dessert of S'Mores. We expect to hear that they are home any time now. Tomorrow it will be just my missus, me, and the dogs. We plan to take it easy and do not much of anything. Ha! As if my missus would allow that. I'm sure there will be some long walks around the campground and maybe a trip to town. In between, I hope to get some writing done on a new project I've been toying with. I hope y'all are having a great weekend. What have you been up to so far?

I never cooked on an open fire, I do in the fireplace time by time, the taste of grilled food on wood is so good.

Being a life-long camper, I have often cooked over open fires. Usually it turns out well, but occasionally, if I'm not careful, things can get overdone. Last night I was careful and it turned out wonderful.

Right now it's just in the idea stage. I've already decided to change the whole direction of the story twice. The character I thought was going to be the main character might be about to have a tragic, fatal accident, and a new character I brought in shows a lot of promise.

@thislittlepennyearns If this story works out, it will be very different from my other Buzby Beach books. For one thing, the characters don't live on Buzby Island, but some of them work part-time jobs there and they all hang out there when not at school.

@DWDavis Oooh. I'm intrigued. I wrote a little bit today. But then gone distracted. Hopefully I'll get back in the habit of writing again.

When you say camp fire was this an outdoor thing - in your garden may be? And what is S'mores?

I have not tried Dutch Oven cooking but it sounds great your way. I am eager to start my project of getting together poems for my second book of poems. I have one out and I want to do another. I figure if I can get it done by some time late September or in October I will have a book ready for Christmas gifts that is if anyone will be interested. My first book came out at the beginning of this year and has been doing good and not so good.

Toying with new projects is fun. I'm glad the Dutch oven cooking turned out great over the campfire and you had a pleasant day with Son2 and GF. I'm getting ready to publish my next book.

@DWDavis I need a beta reader for a couple portions to make certain about accuracy, and my son needs to finish the map for it, and then it will be published, so soon. I'd like it before summer ends, or at least before the end of September. We'll see what happens.

Shopping, lunch or brunch and cooking. Dealing with leftovers. I mowed a bit. Nothing too spectacular. This is the first time in ten days that hubby has felt well enough to leave the property, so it was a good day.

You should teach George to do some of the work. All play and no work will spoil him.

My sister-in-law is a dab hand at cooking with a Dutch oven. They have done a lot of camping over the years but she in now in remission from cancer and they've bought a caravan to make things a bit more comfortable.

My sons learned about Dutch Oven cooking in Scouts. We did quite a lot when we tail-gate camped. My missus is new to it, but has taken to it with gusto. I'm glad your SIL is in remission and they are camping again. We do enjoy the comforts of our caravan.

The pot pie was delicious. My missus grilled the chicken first and that gave it a nice outdoorsy flavor.

We have a few mason jars we use as drink glasses. I've kept nuts and bolts in them in the past. Baby food jars are also good for that. I've never actually used mason jars for their intended purpose of preserving food.

Be glad to. Get ready though. My missus found some special S'mores sized marshmallows and they are huge. I'm usually good for 3 or 4 S'mores. Tonight I could barely finish my second one.
