Pre Made Hamburgers Are A Cinch

I am going to share with you a shocking revelation. I am cheap and I like to save money. Okay, probably not all that shocking. Look, I talk all the time about something I call a threshold price. In other words, all a threshold price is is the highest price I am willing to pay for something. When it comes to ground beef that threshold price happens to be $1.99 per pound. So, as a result, even if pre-made hamburger patties, even from Walmart, are convenient, they do not fall under my price threshold. Most of the time I can get hamburger meat at Ruler Foods for about $1.89 to $1.99 per pound, and so this definitely fits my bill. So I make my own pre-made burgers I can freeze and just throw onto the grill when I feel like hamburgers. Generally, if I get three pounds of the stuff I can put together 2 packages of 6 1/4# patties. For these I keep a real simple recipe handy. I just put in the three pounds of ground beef and then add 1 packet of onion soup mix, a little bit of garlic powder, pepper, Rupena's beef and pork seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, 3 eggs, and about 2/3 cup of bread crumbs. Get out some wax paper and cut them into hamburger patty sized squares. Then form the burgers at 1/4# a piece (I use a kitchen scale), place them onto the waxed side of a piece of freezer paper, place the patties onto the paper and place a piece of wax paper between them, seal them up, and voila! When you want hamburgers on the quick the work has already been done, you have saved money, and these will taste even better because you have seasoned them the way you want them and prefer them.

I would never buy pre-made patties from the store. I saw the movie Food Inc and it said that one of those patties can have meat from up to 100 cows. No wonder they are always being recalled for pathogens. E. Coli destroyed Topps.

That's definitely another consideration. At the end of the day anything homemade is better and cheaper than anything pre-made.

@porwest I read Fast Food Nation 15 years ago and I was done with fast food forever. I watched Food Inc when it came out and, again, it changed the way that I look at food.

You've got a good plan for those burgers. I was lazy, but I haven't had burgers in a long time.

I need to get at making some more of these. I don't have any in the freezer right now. Won't get the meat for what I was willing to pay when I wrote this though. I'd KILL for $1.99 per pound for ground beef.

@just4him Me either. The last batch of it I bought I got for $2.99 per pound. 73/27.

This is the ideal way to make up hamburgers and have them ready to cook. And at least you know what's in them.

This is very true. If I make them, I pretty much know what went in them. I have not made any to freeze in a while, but before this next summer hits I think I most definitely will. Especially if I happen to see a sale on beef. I have had to raise my threshold price substantially for obvious reasons since writing this post. lol

Patties, what a nice word. We never make our own. Only time we have a burger is when we get them at 95 percent off on the sell by date Or from a takeaway which does really good burgers. But Yvonne has said no more take away food until the New Year so wont be eating any more from Dinos.

I still buy pre mades. But when I get a good deal on hamburger, I make a huge batch and just freeze them. They are way better than anything pre made I have ever bought. But of course they are seasoned up just the way I like them.

I do something similar. I make patties without any seasoning and wrap them in plastic wrap, then store them in the freezer. Yours sound delish!

We have always made our own patties. That's the way to go!
