Yesterday we went and enjoyed a nature center fairly near by. We read some indoor exibits, then stepped out onto the deck. To our left we saw this little guy eating hands full of black sunflower seeds. He was not scared at all. We got up almost face to face. Nature centers are some place we enjoy visiting, and it was free of charge.

Great picture. We have one here too. I haven't been there this summer yet. It's also free.

We have even visited this one in the winter and hiked the open fields. It is so strange. You do not see the city because of all the growing things, but you hear the traffic and sometimes sirens. It is like a bubble of calm inside a busy world.

@GardenGerty That's a great way to describe your sanctuary.

Heather, It seems like forever, so good to see you! I hope you remember me from other sites. This is a cute catch of the squirrel. Nature is amazing.

Yes, I just had to read a post or two and knew you immediately. This little guy is so used to visitors he seems to have no fear.

I love your photo. I wish there was a nature center near me, other than my own stand of sunflowers and sparrows.

We have several scattered around the state. This one has good memories for us from when hubby was new to the area. I love the flowers and such that they have, both cultivated and wild.

I would love a place like this. We stayed with friends and there were two butcher birds on the verandah who weren't the least bit scared of us. I'll have photos of them later.

There was a group of parents and kids out doing a scavenger hunt too. It did not even seem to bother the squirrel.

Oh he is a fat little beastie. He gets lots of food if the birds do not eat it.

Why didn't you catch him ? I would if I were you. But I can't guarantee that my my nieces would keep him alive.

First of all this is a sanctuary, so we are not to disturb anything, although people can catch fish. Secondly, he might bite me and just might have rabies. I had a great uncle train his squirrels in his yard once, to take peanuts out of his hands.
