Owls and earthquakes

Time can go by very quickly sometimes. It seems only a few days ago I was saying goodbye now here I am saying hello again. We travelled roughly 460 kms to Ravensthorpe in south-east Western Australia where we used to live to attend their Spring Festival and Wildflower Show. We were able to catch up with many of our old friends and acquaintances while we were there. We had intended to take the caravan and parked it on a friend’s block but they suggested we leave the van behind and stay in the house. This made sense as we weren’t intending to travel on to other areas. They have a strong quilting club in the town and I fell in love with the quilt on our bed which, as you can see, features owls. I forgot to take my camera on the Saturday but I’ll post photos of the flowers once I can get them from Vince’s camera. Another piece of news – while we were away there was a 5.6 earthquake in south-west Western Australia and I know it was felt in our area although of course we were away so missed out on the excitement. It seems there was very little damage from the quake. Thank heavens we don’t get too many.

That quilt looks great. Earthquakes are nature's way of shaking thing things up.

It's nice isn't it? And yes, it seems there was a fair amount of shakin' going on.

I love your quilt with owls Judy. I did not know you had a quake, I hope all your books and bottles did not move.

@JudyEv I am glad it was not too strong. When we lived in Monte-Carlo we had a pretty strong one that caused many books to fall down from the shelves.

@LadyDuck Better for books to fall over than all my ornaments. Earthquakes are very scary I think.

It was felt in our area but we were over 400 miles away so we didn't feel it there. Nothing seems to be any different now we're home.

No, all the different colours and patterns are stitched together. It's very intricate work.

Love the Owl Quilt - that is something i would put in any of my rooms. So you got a shake? wow it seems with all the storms and other elements playing havoc all over the world, a slight taste of the Armageddon

Apparently we get quite a few shakes but most are very slight. I guess we can't expect to be the only country that dodges all of Mother Nature's little tricks.

@JudyEv I am so glad you were away from the earthquake. Was everything ok when you got home? That is a lot of owls on that quilt. So, is it hard to go back to a place you lived before or was it nice to be back there?

@Hannihar Yes it is quite dry and barren compared to the green of this area.

It was nice to go back but I don't really want to live there now. We had had no damage at home thanks.

Where I live, 5.6 quakes don´t make any damage. It all depends of how houses are built. I´m quite sure that there will not be much damage in Australia.

@JudyEv It is also important if the houses are well built.

That's true and the epicentre was where there is just farmland. There is something to be said for being a sparsely populated country.

That earthquake was a lot bigger than you usually get but not in a totally unexpected area. You seem to get them kind of around the edges and then right in the middle. Like a tent around the edges and then the tent top.

Yes, that's true. It was a bigger than any recent ones. Luckily we're a sparsely populated country which does have its advantages.

Good to see you back. This quilt looks too good. You surely missed the excitement of the earthquake but definitely you had other excitements. It is good that earthquake did not do much damage. Will wait for your pictures of flowers.

Very nice quilt you have there. I think you were lucky you missed the shake in your place. Instead you enjoyed in the safety of friends in another place. Hopefully your place is safe from it.

Perhaps about the same time an earthquake of same magnitude struck our place in northern Bengal near the mountains. The blanket surely is lovely

Very nice quilt! All of this natural disaster! Glad it was not a bad one. As I have seen, or as I think, when we have hurricanes and other places have typhoons, some place has another earthquake.
